Since I first watched Borat I fell in love with Sacha Baron Cohen and his style of humor. I have always thought that I would enjoy a Borat 2, but I am not really sure that such a film would work, Borat just seems to be more suited as a “one hit wonder.”
While I don’t see a Borat 2 in the works, it looks like the Borat style humor will return in Cohen’s newest film, The Dictator. Aside from the trailer I don’t know much about the film, so here’s a quick rundown:
- The Dictator looks to be more Borat-esque than Bruno.
- While parts of Borat were clearly staged, it appears that majority of The Dictator will not only be staged, but scripted.
- John C Reilly will make an appearance, this is a plus.
- The film will be released sometime in the summer of 2012 (That’s this year people!)
My prediction: The Dictator will most likely not live up to the original Borat, but honestly, how could it? It will most definitely surpass Cohen’s last film, Bruno. While the film will be hilarious to some (myself included), I predict it will not be a hit. After Borat Cohen will be nothing more than “That guy that was Borat.”
Watch the trailer and put your prediction in the comments!
