The wait is finally over! The Simpsons Movie is finally here, and I know everyone is just dying to see it. I have just returned from watching this film and I must start by saying it was great. I am a die hard Simpson’s fan and have been awaiting this movie since the rumors first started years ago. As big of a fan as I am I will be the first to admit that The Simpsons series has really gone downhill the past few years. Matt Groening had vanished from the scene and the show really took a turn for the worse. This made me worry that the movie would follow suite. However, the movie was amazing.
If you are a true Simpson’s fan you will see many references to the show throughout the movie. I found it disappointing that they didn’t answer questions that we have all been wondering such as, “Where is Springfield?” Instead, they just jumped around the answer in typical Simpson’s fashion. At one point in the movie, The Simpsons almost brought me to tears. It isn’t all laughs with this yellow family. Personally, I felt that I was just watching an extended television show. I am afraid that I will be disappointed watching the show after seeing them on the big screen.
When news of the movie first arose, I was glad to hear that the original creators would be taking part. One person I really missed though was Conan O’Brien. Conan did some work for The Simpsons early on and wrote the now famous episode “Marge Vs. the Monorail.” I really feel that Conan should have been given a spot in the movie. It is reported that Conan was snubbed by Fox. Apparently, he put his talk show on hold for a year, got an apartment outside the studio, and Fox stopped returning his phone calls. The only real excuse he got was that they were having trouble finding him a parking spot. What a pathetic excuse.
All-in-all this was an amazing film. It kept me focused throughout, filling me with laughter, and even sadness. I never thought an animated film could make my heart sink in the way it did watch The Simpsons. As a fan I feel that any true Simpsons fan will enjoy this movie, a non-fan may not get many of the references, but it is still a humorous, and enjoyable movie. Also, be sure to watch the credits! There is a little surprise of what is yet to come!
