THE LEGEND OF GODS GUN, is a retro 60’s “GRINDHOUSE” style Rock-n-Roll Spaghetti Western dark comedy.
Produced and starring the alternate rock band “SPINDRIFT”. Sound bizarre yet ???
What stands out about this film is the surreal music, style and authenticity the band totally pulls off as a grindhouse spaghetti western. The film really captures the 60’s genre look and themes right down to the psychedelic pot smoking, and classic western rock music. It took me a few minutes to adjust myself to this film, but once I did it felt like I was truly watching an old 60’s style grindhouse movie…
The film starts off hazy and grainy as we see an anonymous gunslinger (Bones) loosing his beloved to a masked killer. As the credits play out and the effect of the grainy look improves we meet El Sobero (Thomas), the most feared outlaw in the west. He and his gang are on the run from a bounty hunter. The Bounty Hunter (Koenig), manages to kill one of Sobero’s men and quickly abandons pursuit as he has no horse and can only drag one bounty to the local town.
The local town in question is Playa Diablo, a wretched hive of scum and villainy. The local sheriff Colt (Bruce), is a walking turd of a lawman, who’s bitchy wife Ms Jane (Patterson) is having an affair with his moronic Deputy (Dyeswell).
As these type of stories go, the enraged gunslinger turns into an avenging preacher who’s hellbent on revenge. As his visions lead him to identify the killers, he finds himself compelled to the town of Playa Diablo. Meanwhile, left without horses Sobero and his men also make their way back to Playa Diablo killing everything in their path…
This film is grindhouse camp, very funny, and disturbing as there’s some 60’s necrophelia aspects and very light devil worship that was prevalent during that time. The film is color filtered in a strange kaleidoscopic hue that adds all the more 60′ s vibe to it. The music is haunting spaghetti style rock that’s used perfectly throughout the film. Not to mention a great intermission music video performed by the actors, as they are one in the same. The final song, performed by Gram Rabbit is a really spooky tune called “Devils Playground” a truly weird and fitting end track… THE LEGEND OF GODS GUN is a work of art and cult masterpiece. The look and feel won’t be for everyone, however if your in the mood for an over the top grindhouse spaghetti western dark comedy with some great original music, this film delivers !!!
The dvd includes, a behind the scenes feature, Actors that rock feature, deleted scenes, I’ll fix it in post feature, music videos, “Conversation with a Gun” and, “Devils Playground”. Unfortunately I couldn’t access some of the bonus features. It would just bump back to the beginning of the film ?
I did like the music videos!!!
