Today I was completely surprised when I was browsing social media and saw a video for a new Netflix space flick. As I was watching the trailer, I started to realize that it was a Lost in Space remake! That’s right folks, Netflix has decided to remake the 1960s series Lost in Space. As far as I can tell from the trailer, Netflix’s Lost in Space remake tells the story of Will Robinson, robot and all.
Netflix Lost in Space Trailer
Before we get much further, take a moment and check out the trailer.
Ok, now that you have seen the trailer for Lost in Space, what do you think? If you were a fan of the original 1960’s series, you will notice some pretty big changes. However, we still see the Robinson family marooned on a remote planet. It is essentially a space-themed version of Gilligan’s Island.
Different from the original, this remake seems to be a more serious approach and moving away from the humor that was found in the original series. I don’t know if I like that or not, as the comedy was my favorite part of the original series.
Netflix Lost in Space Robot
The biggest change I have noticed from the original Lost in Space is the robot. The original robot was iconic and had some unique features. From his pinchers and flailing arms to his catchphrase “Danger Will Robinson!” He was truly unmistakable.
The new robot is just… Creepy. They have removed the trademark hand pinchers, and the robot is way more human-like than his 1960’s counterpart.
Lost in Space on Netflix release date
Now that you have seen the trailer, and kind of know what this Lost in Space remake is all about, you are probably wanting to know when you can watch it for reals.
When will Lost in Space premiere on Netflix? April 13th.
I haven’t been able to locate much information about the format beyond it being a series. With that, I would expect all of the episodes to be released on day one. As far as how many, I am guessing (purely a guess) that it will be an 8-part series with each episode pushing the one-hour mark. We will find out on April 13th if I am anywhere close to being right.
Will the Lost in Space Netflix remake be any good?
Now the big question with the Lost in Space remake, will it be any good? Netflix is really finding their groove when it comes to making original content. They have produced so many good shows such as The Push and Spectral. But I struggle when they start to move into remake territory. We all know how “good” the last Lost in Space remake was back in 2004… And in 1998. All I am saying is, Lost in Space doesn’t have a good track record on the remake front. I am not sure that Netflix has what it takes to pull it off, but I will still be giving it a chance.
The next question I have, is Netflix on track to be a major content producer? I know they have already been tackling content head-on with more slated in 2018, but are they ready to take on the major studios? I think that we are getting ready to see some exciting things from Netflix. I can say one thing for sure, it’s been really neat to watch them evolve from slinging DVDs to being a full-blown production house.
