So I am making my evening rounds (scouring the web for anything interesting!) and I come across the image you see to the left of this text. It caught my attention. My initial thought was, some sort of vigilante/hero film? A mix between V for Vendetta and Watchmen. Those two sounded like a good match to me. So I did a little research. What is this film all about. What I found was exciting: a film being refered to as a “sci-fi neo noir thriller.” If that doesn’t get your attention, I don’t know what will! Seriously, though, it sounds great to me. In case you need more convincing, I present to you a quick synopsis of the film, as compiled by me.
Franklyn is based on a screenplay by Gerald McMorrow. The film seemingly has one major star, Ryan Phillipe. Franklin is set between the parallel worlds of contemporary London and the futuristic metropolis of Meanwhile City, and weaves a tale of four souls, whose lives are intertwined by fate, romance and tragedy. As these worlds collide, a single bullet determines the destiny of these four characters. Preest is a masked vigilante detective, searching for his nemesis on the streets of Meanwhile City, a monolithic fantasy metropolis ruthlessly governed by faith and religious fervor. Esser is a broken man, searching for his wayward son amongst the rough streets of London’s homeless. Milo is a heartbroken thirty-something desperately trying to find a way back to the purity of first love. Emilia is a beautiful art student; her suicidal art projects are becoming increasingly more complex and deadly.
Maybe we should just chalk this up to being a film that a select few will be interested in, myself included. Or maybe we are starting to see a new trend of darker hero/vigilante films. I don’t care. I will be seeing this unless something crazy happens. Looks good to me!
