There is nothing better than a really good action thriller. In my book, no movie can keep the audience interested and on edge like an action thriller can. So I am always on the hunt for the next great film in this genre. Echelon Conspiracy may just fit that bill. It all starts with a great cast: Shane West, Edward Burns, Ving Rhames and Martin Sheen. What about the story, you ask? Well, check out this brief synopsis:
“A young American engineer comes into possession of a cell phone that bestows unlimited wealth upon him, never realizing the danger posed to him by the device until security agents close in and start shooting to kill. Now, as a frantic chase across the continents gets under way, the stability of the entire world hangs in the balance.”
From what I can gather, the weak point of this film is sitting in the directors chair. Directing Echelon Conspiracy relative unknown Greg Marcks. But I’m always willing to give a new director the benefit of the doubt, and considering that Marcks has only a small hand full of films under his belt, he’ll need it. But all in all, the cast and the story could ensure the film being good despite the director’s relative inexperience. It has been described as “a globe trotting action thriller.” Good stuff. Check out the trailer if you haven’t already done so, and tell me what you think! Is Echelon Conspiracy destined for greatness, or destined for the bargain bin at your local Walmart?
The film is slated for release on February 27th, 2009.
