Remember back in the day when the stoner duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong were all the rage? Well, I don’t, I’m not old enough. However, I have always been a big fan of their films, and albums. That is why I am so glad to be reporting this great news! Apparently Cheech Marin is stepping back into the movie industry with his new film Angel of Oxnard. The film is written by, starred by, and directed by Cheech Marin himself. However, there is no sign od Chong just yet.
Marin wrote and will direct and star in a dramedy titled Angel of Oxnard. The story is about Angel Mejias, the voice of Oxnard’s version of the Home Shopping Network, who finds himself in the middle of a worldwide media storm when his face appears on a tortilla. Marin has actually directed twice before, specifically two late 80’s Cheech & Chong movies titled Get Out of My Room and Born in East L.A.
Ok, so we all know back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s that Chong had been trying to recruit Cheech for a new film, Get Blunt. the film was written by Chongs daughter, and as the titled shows, fell right back into their old humor. Cheech repeatedly turned down the film, saying that they were too old to do stoner films. Chong replied to this in high Time Magazine saying that Cheech is nothing more than a sell-out, and a “professional Mexican.”
Chong never would continue production of the film until Cheech would co-star with him. Which make me think, will their comedy tour mark their comeback? I would realy like to see new Cheech and Chong movies, but I still haven’t decided if it would be a good move. What do you guys think?
