The star of Deadwood and Hitman Timothy Olyphant, has signed on to star in the remake of the George Romero horror fest, The Crazies. The story revolves around the inhabitants of a small Kansas town who are terrorized by death and insanity after a near by plane crash releases a biological weapon into the towns water supply.
Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris are producing, with Romero executive producing. The film was written by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright. Breck Eisner will direct.
This sounds like every other zombie film you’ve ever seen, however casting Olyphant as the Sheriff is a smart move. If you recall Timothy Olyphant played Sheriff, Seth Bullock, in the HBO series Deadwood. His performance along with Ian McShane’s, was some of the best acting I’ve ever seen in a western. Unfortunately this all but seals the fate of the proposed Deadwood movies that HBO promised the fans. News has come out that the studio’s lease on the Deadwood set is up, and its being torn down. That’s a shame as Deadwood the movie would have been great, and also would have given the show a proper ending. Timothy Olyphant will next appear opposite Glenn Close, in FX’s Damages.
