Well, it looks like the reboot/remake machine just keeps on churning out recycled ideas, and Hollywood exec’s continue to to think this is a good idea. The latest property rumored to get the reboot/remake treatment? Teen Wolf. Yes that classic 80’s Michael J. Fox film will get a fresh coat of paint. Word is that Jerry Levine, who currently works on T.V’s “Everybody hates Chris” and previously played the classic character Rupert “Stiles” Stilinski in Teen Wolf, is in talks with the folks over at MGM to bring the character back to movie fans everywhere in either a theatrical release OR a direct-to-DVD release. “Stiles” would direct the discussed project and may even make a cameo in said film.
I don’t know about you, but I loved Teen Wolf. It was a lot of fun, and I still watch the movie from time to time. I even enjoyed the sequel, Teen Wolf Too. It was where I discovered one of my favorite comedic actors of all time, Jason Bateman. So I am not as disgusted by this news as some of you may be right now. I don’t fully embrace the potential for ruining one of my favorite 80’s films of all time, yet I do not fully reject the idea either. If they managed to find a young actor as charismatic and talented as Michael J. Fox was in the project, it may actually turn out to be okay. I’m at a loss for ideas on casting right now. I just can’t think of a comparable actor to Michael J. Fox to star in this film. Maybe you could play casting director and help us out? Hopefully, Levine realizes that a decent remake of this classic hinges on finding the “new” Michael J. Fox. What do you think of this rumored reboot/remake?
