9/16/2012 UPDATE: Check out the amazing, fan made Trailer for the Simpsons Movie Sequel. Sure, it’s nothing official, but still worth a watch, and will help hold you over for official Simpsons Movie 2 trailers.
Ok, so the title is a bit misleading, as their is no official announcement for a Simpsons Movie sequel, but it is definitely said with justification. Here’s the deal: Last week during Animation Domination on Fox (my favorite part of the week), Fox teased a trailer for an upcoming Simpson’s short titled “The Longest Daycare.” The short will feature Maggie Simpson, and will be done completely in 3D.
First off, I am probably one of the biggest Simpsons fans. I have seen every episode, have wasted hundreds, and possibly thousands on Simpsons merchandise and comics. But lately, The Simpsons have plain sucked. It’s almost as if they don’t care anymore, and just aren’t the same as the original. I can’t blame them though, I would imagine that coming up with new material for the yellow family would be rather difficult. But enough about my love affair with The Simpson, onto the trailer:
Now that you have watched it, I can start bitching. First up, why make a TEASER (a short trailer) for a SHORT (a short movie before a real movie)? One possibility would be to hype a Simpsons Movie 2, which from my understanding isn’t even on the table yet. But the more likely possibility, to help market the Ice Age series. I couldn’t imagine the sequel mill known as Ice Age is still gaining viewers, and tacking on a Simpsons short may just bring in a few more patrons. Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t go and watch Ice Age in theaters, but with a Simpsons short, I will probably go. But then again, I am in the minority.
On the plus side, I like that they are doing more with the Simpsons. They started as a short, and I think it would be awesome if they would start adding these to all FOX films, kind of like Pixar does with their shorts. I would love to see the Simpsons make a comeback and dominate for another 23 years, but I see the franchise fading. I honestly fear that a Simpsons Movie 2 may turn into a Simpsons Farewell.
