From time to time, I find myself thinking of the most bizarre things. Today, I was thinking about movie genre’s or types that really need a shot in the arm. A common concept that has been absent lately, or there has been a complete dearth of any quality in the genre recently. You know what I came up with? Buddy cop comedies. Go ahead, take a second and think, then tell me the last good buddy cop movie you’ve seen. Now, there might be a handful of you out there that completely disagree with me, and to you I say “Good for you. Go watch Rush Hour 3. This post is not for you.”
Here I am, a few hours later, with the most bizarre movie news I’ve seen in a while, and I just don’t know how to start explaining this or what to talk about once I am started. So I twisted the facts a bit in a weak attempt at a lead in for what is sure to be the most bizarre movie ever, King Shot. Sorry if I mislead you with the title… but I promise I’ll get to the buddy cop topic by the end of this post. King Shot is a foreign film project that is coming together quickly, and boasts a wide array of different cultures and personalities all coming together for what will surely be the craziest movie you’ve ever seen. Let me start by giving you the basic concept: King Shot is being described as a “metaphysical spaghetti Western.” If that isn’t enough to hook you, let me give you a list of some of the talent coming together for this film: David Lynch and a couple of Hungarians, Lazlo Kantor (The Trap) and Simon Shandor, are acting as producers. Star talent includes Asia Argento, Udo Kier, singer Marilyn Manson and Nick Nolte. The mastermind behind this film is visionary Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky. Rounding out the eclectic list of contributors are the film’s financiers, unnamed film enthusiasts in Italy. The project will be shot in Spain, and is likely to start shooting in October, as financing is being wrapped up at the Cannes Film Festival. Almost a little taste of everything. So many different cultures, personalities and people working together on a “metaphysical spaghetti Western?” Bizarre…
I know that unless you are a major film buff, or someone who truly appreciates foreign films, you probably haven’t heard of anyone involved, save for Manson and Nolte. I won’t sit here and say I am a big fan of the foreign talent involved, but I can say that I’ve heard many great things about those I haven’t heard of, and if you’ve never heard of Alejandro Jodorowsky, you should do yourself a favor and look him up on IMDB or MovieWeb. The man is uber-talented and I absolutely can’t wait to see what he does with King Shot. This movie will most certainly end up being one of the most bizarre, unique, and amazing films ever created. As far as I’m concerned, this is a MUST SEE for me. If for no other reason, keep an eye on this film for the opportunity to see Marilyn Manson and Nick Nolte together, in a freaking spaghetti Western!!! It shouldn’t be hard to keep tabs on this film. You can bet I’ll keep everyone posted on breaking developments for King Shot.
On to the promised buddy cop talk! My initial thought to reading the headline about Marilyn Manson and Nick Nolte together in a movie was “Please! In the name of all things Holy, make this a buddy cop comedy. Please!” It may have just been because of my afore-mentioned thoughts on buddy cop flicks, but now that you’ve heard it, think about it! Wouldn’t those two make a great Murtaugh and Riggs?!? That’s what we really need to see from the genre! More bizarre casting! A new “odd couple,” so to speak. If not Manson and Nolte, then how about Gene Simmons and Margaret Cho?!? Or Brett Michaels and Betty White? Or we can skip the musical artist and actor combination and go with something so bizarre that you just have to see it once before you die… like Chuck Norris and a talking cow??? Huh? Yeah!
I know it’s unrealistic to expect people who frequent this site to talk about Kill Shot if they know so little about those involved, but I feel it’s my duty as a Movie Guy and lover of ALL movies to inform you of the truly unique projects, no matter how odd they seem. Feel free to use the comments section of this post to propose a buddy cop pairing instead! Or talk about the genre in general, including your favorite team-ups of all time! Or, just call me a weirdo and leave it at that. Whatever you want to do. I am but your humble Movie Guy, here to try and please you.
