Most People love games and movies, but when a game is based on a film, it’s usually the film which is deemed the more successful of the two. This is mainly because a game being made on the back of a hit movie is a bit of a marketing gimmick really, and a way to keep the film relevant as time goes on. However, we have seen games which have indeed been masterclasses in their own right, surpassing the success of the film on which they were originally based.
GoldenEye
This one really is a tough one to call, especially as the film itself did so well at the box office. The Pierce Brosnan era of 007 was really hit and miss but with GoldenEye it certainly hit the spot. There’s no denying it was a superb film but we’ve seen a lot better over the years. When GoldenEye 007 first hit the video gaming world on the N64, everyone knew it was a masterpiece. The gameplay and story were as close to perfect as you could get it and it also helped bring in the era of first-person shooters. The 1997 version of GoldenEye for the N64 is still talked of as a classic today and one of the best games to ever be released.
Tomb Raider
Many of you reading this will already be thinking that the Tomb Raider games actually came into existence before the films, but there have been movies based on the game and then further games that have followed. While the films have been huge hits at the box office, the Lara Croft Tomb Raider games give players the chance to actually experience the adventures themselves. They get to infiltrate the tombs and ruins which are packed full of danger, explore environments and solve puzzles. With Tomb Raider, the doing has always been much more successful than the watching. In fact, Lara Croft has even managed to become a huge success in the online casino world, as most reputable brands like Unibet having at least one slot machine based on the character.
The World Is Not Enough
Another 007 title you may notice but this time for very different reasons. The World Is Not Enough film, the nineteenth in the 007 series, just failed to deliver due to a poor storyline and underwhelming action scenes. The game itself was always going to struggle due to the fact that GoldenEye on the N64 had gone before it and proved to be a huge success. However, while The World Is Not Enough didn’t really deliver on the PS1, on the other hand, it very much did on the N64; and it became a really solid shoot ‘em up title with great multiplayer options too.
Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is one of the biggest franchises out there and it not only consists of great films but great games too. So over the years, it’s only right that we have seen some movies be more successful than the games based on them and also some games that have impressed more than the films themselves. This is yet another game that has managed to be successful in the online casino world, which just shows how easy it is to merge the two genres. The arcade shooter for example which was produced by gaming giants Capcom on the back of Jurassic Park III really delivered as a game and its success in this area outweighed that of the movie. The gaming experience was better, the action was too and the story made a hell of a lot more sense.
