Back in early 2006 I caught the first rumors of the return of Futurama. For those of you who don’t know, Futurama was canned 2 years ago to make room for other programs. Like most news I read, this was fueled by rumors and speculation, and I didn’t expect it to go anywhere. I completely ignored the news and never really thought of it until today when I heard that a strait to DVD Futurama movie was to be released this Wednesday!
So after I heard the news of the movie, I had to see it. The movie, titled Bender’s Big Score, highlights all the stars you love, plus many new ones. Also, almost every side character had a special cameo in the film. I was a huge fan in the original show, and felt that the show was pulled well before it’s prime. The movie’s story contains many references to previous shows that every fan will love, but the story is amusing enough to entertain someone who has never seen the show before. The Futurama movie also makes several cracks about Fox, and politics in typical Matt Groening fashion.
The Future of Futurama
After some research, and seeing what has happened in the past, I have a very good idea of what will happen to Futurama. It is my official prediction that Futurama will be following in the footsteps of Family Guy and making their debut back on network television, but don’t be surprised if it is not on FOX. My best guess would be to expect them on Comedy Central late in 08′. And for the first episodes, don’t be disappointed to just see a rehash of the movie (remember the Family Guy film?). I am so happy to see Futurama back in the public eye, and think they have some great things to come. We can only hope they release another movie or two so I can talk about them more ;)
