Over a year ago we first heard about The Expendables, which will quite possibly be the most badass movie of the year. It has been a while since we have talked about it here on MovieGuys, so I figure that our loyal fans are well overdue for an update.
First off, a little about the film. It is rather simple really, The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a violent dictator. The group soon realizes that they have gotten more than they have bargained for.

As far as the plot goes, it doesn’t sound like anything spectacular. You may find yourself asking right now, what makes this movie so badass? Simple! The cast! The producers have wrangled a handful of some of the best action actors still in the biz. Sylvester Stallone (who is also directing/writing), Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Gary Daniels, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, “Stone-Cold” Steve Austin, and Terry Crews. Talk about a handful of action stars, and I am sure this isn’t the full list! Forest Whitaker, and a few others were originally in the line-up, but have been cut due to scheduling conflicts and/or time restraints.
I would personally love to see Clint Eastwood, and/or Kurt Russell make some sort of an appearance. Just seeing Kurt Russell go by as an extra in a scene wearing the Snake Plisken eyepatch would make my day!

I have read several negative comments about the film based on the trailer, but I have to disagree with them. Most people seem quick to pick the trailer apart, say it is all over the place, or the acting is horrible. And to all the nay-sayers I ask you this, what did you expect? This is going to be your typical action movie on crack. This isn’t going to win awards for an excellent story, or acting. But I am hoping it wins awards in my book for explosions, bad-ass fight scenes, and maybe, just maybe a half naked female or two.
