Exodus: Gods and Kings is the new epic blockbuster by Ridley Scott and stars Christian Bale as the defiant leader, “Moses” who rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.
Exodus Gods and Kings: The Good
Exodus: Gods and Kings is one of Ridley Scott’s most epic blockbusters since Gladiator both for scale and performances. Christian Bale is perfectly cast as the fearless warrior/leader “Moses” and is one of Bale’s best performances. Joel Edgerton stars in his first major blockbuster and is impressive as Ramses who is Moses’s brother turned enemy.
There are also a great supporting cast including Sigourney Weaver as Ramses mother, “Tuya” Aaron Paul who is underused in a small role as slave “Joshua”. John Turturro stars as Ramses’s father “Seti”. Ben Kingsley who also shows up as a slave.
The special effects in the movie are impressive, even if its supporting the impressive practical effects with CGI buildings or when the deadly plagues are introduced. There is also some great orchestrated battle scenes similar to the tradition of Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven that are epic and Scott who is an expert at filming action scenes.
Exodus Gods and Kings: The Bad
Exodus: Gods and Kings, is a lengthy running time, the first half is entertaining and engaging the second half is long winded and exhausts its bum-numbing 150 minute running time.
Conclusion
Overall, Exodus: Gods and Kings is an epic blockbuster with amazing special effects and adrenaline action scenes and two impressive lead performances in Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton.
