I have been patiently waiting for this movie to come to theaters and I have been excited about its release since I saw the previews for it before the Bourne Ultimatum. Death Sentence wasn’t advertised very much and it kind of popped up out of nowhere. This thriller stars Kevin Bacon and it’s about him losing his oldest son to a gang initiation killing. Bacon is a normal guy with a wife, two sons, nice house, and a great job. When his son is killed it brings out his most primal instincts for revenge and it causes a chain reaction of events to send his whole life into a spinning chaotic mess.
This movie was very entertaining and very original. Kevin Bacon’s character is such an interesting one in that he isn’t a Marine, former Navy Seal, or a CIA/FBI agent. He’s just a normal guy. Watching Bacon go through his tragedy and seeing him, this normal guy, react to it the way he does just make me put myself in his shoes. Would I respond in that way? It makes it thrilling to think about. Bacon steps out on a limb for taking this role but definitely hits it out of the ballpark with his acting. Death Sentence is a movie that hits you on all levels of emotions. You’ll be on the verge of tears in some parts, but the action scenes have you on the edge of your seat and have you cheering him along as he goes after the animals who killed his son.
There isn’t anything really negative I can say about this movie. The only thing that may have been a little problem for me would be the Detective role in the movie. She was almost antagonistic towards Bacon throughout the movie and it was frustrating for me because she wasn’t helping with the situation and cops are suppose to be the “good guys” right? I don’t know if I didn’t like the acting by her or if it was just the written character, I just think they should have had her be more of a help rather than a problem.
Overall Death Sentence was an excellent movie. I’ll be seeing it several more times in the near future. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good action flick and a good date movie, n my opinion, so guys feel free to take your girlfriends because I’m sure they will enjoy it.
