It’s been a while since I’ve seen a quality horror film. Personally, I don’t like the recent trend of “gore porn” in movies like Hostel and Saw. That is not scary, it’s gross. Horror films that don’t rely on disgusting gore are few and far between these days. I have watched numerous horror films over the last 2 years. Many have come close, but none have truly left me grinding my teeth and shaking nervously. True, as one grows older, horror films lose a bit of that scare factor. But a really good horror film can really make you jump. I miss that. So I am constantly searching for the next great horror film. And I think I may have found one in The Horsemen. Horsemen is a horror film starring Dennis Quaid. Here is a brief description of the film, courtesy of Trailer Addict:
Aidan Breslin is a bitter detective emotionally distanced from his two young sons following the untimely death of his devoted wife. While investigating a series of murders of rare violence, he discovers a terrifying link between himself and the suspects in a chain of murders that seem to be based on the Biblical prophecies concerning the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death.
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, please partake in it now. Okay, I will admit that this film looks like it has “gore porn” potential. But there is something else about this film. Something in the trailer gives me the feeling that the movie is not so much about the blood and gore, even though it may show it. There seems to be a thrilling and compelling plot to this one. It exhibits a little intelligence, something that I have not found in very many recent horror films. One more interesting thing to note: the film will be released on Friday the 13th. Coincidence, or is it perhaps a sign of things to come? What do you guys think? Are you going to check out The Horsemen?
The Horsemen is set for release on March 13th, 2009
