Public Enemies – Review

July 2, 2009 By Jon Stephens 12 Comments

Rarely are movie-goers treated to a film that boasts a strong story and a strong cast from top to bottom. Even rarer still that they get to see two of the finest actors in recent memory doing their job at the top of their game. I got was exactly what I expected – a ton of fun, some subtle humor, charm, drama, action, and some of the finest acting I’ve had the pleasure of seeing on the big screen this year. Public Enemies is easily the best major motion picture release of the year.

Franklyn – DVD Re-View

July 1, 2009 By Jon Stephens 2 Comments

Franklyn is a unique and compelling tale that tries to break through pre-established genre boundries. It takes risks. With a fresh look and a thought provoking story, Franklyn is a film that transcends boundries and demands that you think outside the box. A truly unique experience for sure. But this film is not for everyone.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – Review

June 22, 2009 By Jon Stephens 21 Comments

The Transformers are back on the big screen, with the autobots attempting to save Earth once again from the evil decepticons. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is sure to be this summer’s first big box office smash, and it looks to be a very exciting film. More metal on metal? More giant robots vs giant robots? Yes please!

June 15, 2009 By Jon Stephens 1 Comment

The taking of Pelham 123 is a remake of the 70’s action thriller The taking of Pelham One Two Three, and it stars John Travolta and Denzel Washington. Those two alone should be enough to draw people into the theaters, right? Instead of capitolizing on it’s potential, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 just falls flat on it’s face.

Angels and Demons

Controversy. What is it about controversy that draws me to a film I wouldn’t normally watch? No, I have never read the books, and no, I have no strong feelings over the context of the film. But whenever I saw the group of old ladies outside the theater with their picket-line style signs protesting The…

Terminator Salvation – Review

May 21, 2009 By Jon Stephens 13 Comments

The Terminator franchise remains one of the most beloved and well respected science fiction franchises of all time. The tales of the future war begin now as McG’s Terminator Salvation hits theaters world wide. Is it possible that McG has made a movie that will satisfy the needs of fanboys and middle-America alike?

May 11, 2009 By Jon Stephens 24 Comments

Star Trek was a dying franchise in desperate need of a new look. JJ Abrams was the man tapped to bring Trek back to life. Is Star Trek a film that will satisfy Trekkers while still bringing in new fans? Can it successfully relaunch the franchise? Yes.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Review

May 1, 2009 By Jon Stephens 24 Comments

I’m not going to waste anyone’s time listing the cast, or the run time or even a plot synopsis for this review.  If you are here at MovieGuys reading this review, you already know all about Wolverine.  I’ve seen it now a couple of times, as I typically do for all the big time films…

Crank 2: High Voltage! – Review

Crank 2: High Voltage was pure and absolute garbage, and I loved every minute of it!
