A bootlegged version of the first A-Team movie trailer leaked onto the internet last week, forcing WB into releasing their official hi-res version.
It starts with hints that Joe Carnahan has approached the film version of the TV classic with the intention of a more serious version, a la Michael Mann and the big-screen Miami Vice update, though maybe slightly flashier. This quickly reverts to what most of us have been expecting, with ridiculous action set-pieces, a lot of smirking and some good ol’ catchphrases thrown in. There’s no sign of cars on two-wheels ploughing into cardboard boxes though…
The good news. Bradley Cooper looks as though he will be more of an all-action ‘Face’, whilst retaining the charm; Liam Neeson’s ‘Hannibal’ is an impersonation of George Peppard, but one that seems to work; Sharlto Copley looks like an absolutely note-perfect casting of Murdoch, and I believe he will be the film’s shining star.
Now for the bad news. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson appears to be nothing but a guy at a party dressed as B.A. Baracus. He carries less charisma than one of Mr T’s mighty gold chains. It’s a shame that the character everyone will look to first may be the weakest (must not make an “I pity the fool…” joke).
Of course, as we learned from the Avatar trailer, jumping to conclusions based on early snippets is always a bad idea…
