I loved Super Troopers. That movie was hilarious. Those Broken Lizard guys are great at what they do. They sure know how to get a laugh. If you’ve never heard of them, shame on you! Your homework for tonight will be to go out and find Super Troopers and Beerfest! and watch them! Hilarious stuff. The Broken Lizard troop consists of Jay Chandrasehkar, Kevin Heffernin, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Eric Stolhansky. They have been active in the comedy community since 1996. If you know about the greatness that is Broken Lizard, the following news will excite you. They are working on a script for the sequel to the classic highway patrol comedy. Where do they go with it, considering the way the last one ended? Well, they addressed this in a recent interview with MovieWeb. According to them, the troopers are going to Canada eh!
“The big picture is that we are on the Canadian Border. And in reality, what has happened is that the government has found places where the markers were off, or wrong. And there are these areas of land that were thought to be Canada, but are actually part of the US. We are enlisted to patrol this area that was always thought to be Canadian soil. But no, it is actually the United States. We are enlisted because they have to send someone there to help make it part of the US territory now. We get recruited to be the highway patrolmen there. And we are surrounded by all of these Canadian people that aren’t happy about this. We essentially have to impose US law on a bunch of Canadians that aren’t at all happy about it.”
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like comedy gold eh! I am super excited now about Super Troopers 2. If you take away their very forgettable slasher comedy Club Dread, all of their films are hilarious. So in my eyes, they can do no wrong. Here’s a little known fun fact for you Broken Lizard fans… Jay Chandrasekhar worked as the director for four episodes of the prematurely cancelled Arrested Development. The guy directs all the Broken Lizard films. He is clearly a talented dude. Anyway, we have some more police hi-jinks to look forward to. What do you think?
The movie is currently in production, so things may change. But it is currently slated for release in 2010.
