I got my votes in early!
I'm really interested in seeing the final results. For some reason I think these winners will come out differently than any other awards show. I trust our readers, and I meant what I said.
You guys are the most knowledgable fans on the web!

this should be interesting

I'd like to think so.
My fav. category has to be kick ass hero of the year. Who kicked the most ass this year?
January 28, 2009
#4
I do believe I voted in the Iron Man direction, I chose Iron Man over Batman, because really, in all hinest TDK was not Batmans show, it was all Heath Ledger and the joker, plus Bale and his on going impression of Eastwood voicing Batman was a bit of a nuciance.
January 28, 2009
#5
Uh, yes. I hated that raspy voice shit Bale did in TDK. It was friggin ridiculous. And you're right, TDK was the Joker's film, not batman's.
But it's not necessarily about the movie, if you guys don't want it to be… It could very simply be just "which hero from the movies this year kicks the most ass?"
Whatever you want it to be!
January 28, 2009
#6
I would still vote Iron Man. Who else could take out an F-15 all by himself? (At least i think it was an F-15)
January 28, 2009
#7
Hulk and Hancock could.
I'm not saying your choice was wrong or bad or anything like that. I'm just attempting to clarify a bit for anyone who may be confused, and to give a new way of looking at it. That's all.
Iron Man clearly kicked ass this summer.

@Jon
You suck! make me look bad, :) LOL. Damn Hulk and Damn Hancock! and Damn the Man! JK
Good point. I really did not think about them when i made the statement.

Hey man, everything I do is all in good fun. You know that.
There are a lot of different ways you could look at both that category and the best villain category. That's why I'm so interested in the results. I'd like to know how people interpeted those categories. You could either go "who was the best (coolest, strongest, scariest)" or you could go "who had the best performance as that character" or you could go "which one fit the best in the films they were in"
So many ways to look at it. That's what makes it so fun!

Ok, I just had a quick look at the votes so far, and there are a few that I really expected, and a few that I didnt. I would like to encourage everyone to tell their friends, so we can get all the votes we possibly can :)

I got my votes in.
I have to say I think Burn After Reading was overlooked this year. I know there were so many good movies but I feel it could have been nominated for at least best screenplay. What do you guys think?
January 29, 2009
#14
If I had it my way, Burn After Reading would've been nominated in best comedy. I loved it, thought it was a very good story. But enough people hated it to over ride my feelings on the film. But I'll agree, It was good.
January 29, 2009
#15
@Dustin
Was Burn after Reading any good, I wanted to see because it looked like it had the type of quirky, wierd humor I enjoy from time to time. My understanding is that in comparision to other Coen Brothers stuff, this one fails. But I may be wrong.
January 29, 2009
#16
I really enjoyed it. It was a little slow in the beginning but over all, I give it two big thumbs up. It was quirky and weird…but funny and shocking at times.
January 29, 2009
#17
I would also recommend it. Very under rated comedy.
January 29, 2009
#18
I did not enjoy Burn After Reading. Not one bit.
January 29, 2009
#19
I never saw Pineapple Express because I typically hate movies that use drugs (specifically pot) as it's central theme. So i try to stay FAR away from crap like this (though i love Harold & Kumar go to WC…but i feel that centered around WC & not pot. Anyways). If Pineapple Express gets any awards I will be pretty upset…especially with all the good movies that were out this year. Seriously, anyone that saw this movie, please tell me if it deserves any award other than Best Stoner Movie. And was it nominated for anything other than an award on MovieGuys.org?
January 29, 2009
#20
I think i saw it voted for at the golden Globes, but I am not entirely sure, it will probaly be chosen for the Mtv Movie awards, but do they really count?
January 29, 2009
#21
In response to your Pineapple Express comments Dustin.Nobody
I saw Pineapple Express, thought it was kind of funny. Not a big fan of Seth Rogen in it though. The WHOLE REASON I liked it was because of James Franco. His role was amazing, he was very good. His character had more dimensions than you would think a stoner in a stoner movie would. And he was very believable. Overall, the character was memorable, and he stole every scene he was in.
Now, I chose to include Pineapple Express because there was a fairly large number of people who liked it a hell of a lot more than I did, I probably would've chosen Burn after reading over Pineapple Express, but these aren't the Jon Stephens awards. But you asked if it was nominated for anything, and yes it was.
James Franco was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the movie. I believe it was Best Actor in a Comedy. He did not win.

the first one was hard!!! i loved all of those movies!!! except step brothers… that one was just ok… and im thinking cloverfield shouldve been in the category of "most disappointing movie" lol
January 29, 2009
#23
Did you have high expectations for Cloverfield? Did you really expect it to be totally awesome?
January 29, 2009
#24
I had no desire to see Step Brothers
January 30, 2009
#25
Really? Not a big fan of Will Ferrell?
I think the guy is hilarious. Not to say that all his movies are, but he is. And I like his style of humor. He's very good. In a way, he kinda reminds me of John Belushi.
January 29, 2009
#26
Cloverfield was great!!!
Not a fan of “Step Brothers”, more so because I don’t like that other guy (can’t remember his name). Will Farrell is getting old as well. I’m hoping he can make up for his last 6 films with “Land of the Lost” well see,,,,
I’ll say this about favorite films, I never give in to popular peer pressure. If you guys liked “Burn After Reading” stand by it…
I watched BAR,and found it to be a recycled batch of Coen Brother ideas and a few David Lynch cliche’s. There was really nothing new going on there.
Malkovich looked like a man-sized chicken abortion with that buzz cut, and Pitt played an even more unlikable character than I thought was possible. Oh wait I forgot Clooneys character. I really hated that guy. All the female characters were all sluts or one dimensional cartoon caracters. The CIA were portrayed as a bunch of 9 to 5rs that couldn’t find there dick with both hands and a flashlight.
The end of the film, was just a big whatever,,,
I just didn’t like it,,, I even followed the instructions on the screener and literally sharpied the disc so I wouldn’t play ever again then I through it in the trash.
But hey if you guys like the film “never give in, never surrender!!”. Learned that from Galaxy Quest !! :)
January 29, 2009

I stand by Burn After Reading. Just as you should stand by Galaxy Quest. That was a really good movie.

Damn right Dustin.Nobody !!!
I like the cut of your jib !!! :)

I thought Burn After Reading was ok, but not stellar. Pineapple express is hilariously laugh outloud funny and I haven’t seen anything even compare. To Jon: James Franco made that movie, you are so right! If anything he made playing a stoner look graceful. haha
Movieguys.org…. place full of opinions, love it!

@jon
Its not that i am not a fan of Will Ferrell, wuite the opposite, i really think he is a gifted and talented actor. The problem i have with Step Brothers, is that its been done before, and its hard to watch Ferrell do dumb shot, when he can be so much better than that a la Stranger Than Fiction, fantastic film, fantastic story and Fantastic acting from everyone, right down to even Queen Latifah. The same goes for John C Reily (790, that who you are thinking of) another gifted and talented actor (IMO) that does dumb shit, IMO , he proved it in Chicago (please save the woosie beatings til after the comment is over). That is why I did not have a desire to see Step Brothers. If it had been Sandler and Schneider, then I would have nbeen all over it, because they are already known for their really dumb shit (Little Nicky anyone?).
@790
FINALLY!!!!! A movie we agree on!!!! Galaxy Quest is Fucking awesome!!!!!

LOL Metallicat, don’t forget we both like “Ghost Rider”

@jon
ok ur right… i was expecting cloverfield to suck balls. maybe it should just be in the “expecting this movie to suck and was 100% right” category… lol
SORRY!!! lol i just… no. cloverfield… no.

#35
I’m not gonna let anyone change my opinion. Burn After Reading was one of my favorite films of the year, I think I even put it in my top ten. 790, all the points you brought up are the exact reasons why it went from being just an okay movie to a good movie. I love stupid movies. Sometimes I can laugh at the flaws of a film more than a good comedy. But oh well. We can’t agree on everything.
I loved Galaxy Quest because it was such a terrific parody. A lot of people don’t get that. They watch it and just think it is stupid and cliche, that it’s been done before, but it was so much more than that.
Metallicat – Stranger than fiction was one of my favorite Will Ferrell movies. It really was something special, highly under rated!

-GO Midnight Meat Train!
-OMG: Can I click them all for Worst Film?????
-For Kick Ass Hero, by reputation, it would be Batman, but OMG, the fight scenes so sucked. It was very stop motion, but then I am a connoisseur of smooth flowing, well choreographed fight scenes.
- OK, the rest of my picks will be a mystery!

I just took a quick glance at the results and some of the categories the votes have surprised me, some I expected, and some are just waaay too close.
I would like to thank everyone for their votes so far. Be sure to continue letting all of your friends know about the voting so we get plenty of votes and hopefully widen the margin in some of the categories.
Thanks again everybody for participating :)

I can’t wait to see the results.
@Bruce
Midnight Meat Train was a last minute entry into the category as I saw it 2 days before we finalized the nominees, and I just knew it had to be included. That movie was great.
The fight scenes in TDK did prevent me from considering Batman, he kicks ass for sure, just not so much in TDK. But I will say that Batman aside, that category (kick ass hero) was one of the toughest choices out of all of the categories. I’m still not confident about my pick.

So i rented Burn after Reading on my VOD, and here is what i thought about Burn after reading.
I really found tha i did not enjoy this one. I hated a large part of the charactors, Particularily George Clooney and Frances Mcdiarmeid (totally spelled her name wrong) as well as John Malkovich. Maybe it is because i did not get the humor in it. It felt like i wasted my time watching it. The highlight, which actually surprised me, was Brad Pitts quirky charactor he was the only thing that made me laugh throughout the whole thing. I also enjoyed the Gym managers charactor and of course JK Simmons, but JK Simmons is good no matter what he is in, i would so far as to ssay, if it weren’t for his role as JJJ, he would have made an awesome Perry White in Superman, but thats just me.
So in short, Burn after Reading stunk!
February 3, 2009
#42
wow. i guess we are going to agree to disagree. I thought Burn After Reading was fun, especially the two agents in the office who keep discussing everything that keeps happening and they really don’t know what to do about it. I laughed out loud at those two characters.
Hey, if you listen to some past episode of MoviesForNobodies you will see that I have different taste in movies than others. (I actually enjoyed all three Matrix movies, X-Men3 and Dude Where’s My Car)
:)

It will never end, it will forever be a thorn in your side. It continues just to pester and annoy those it surrounds.

I’ve been going back over as many of the older podcasts as I have time for, I think right now I’ve listened all the way back to episode 118, we are of the suck. I appreciate the differing opinions. The world would be a boring place if we all agreed! Burn After Reading was good for me! In the end, all that really matters to each of us is how we felt about it, not what everyone else did.
I liked X3. It was entertaining. It wasn’t a good representation of the characters, but it was still fun to watch. I’ve completely given up on ever seeing an accurate depiction of comic book characters on the big screen. Iron Man came close, and that’s about it. Oh well.
“What does mine say?”
“Dude! What does mine say?”
“Sweet!…”
February 3, 2009
#46
I did enjoy X3, what botherd me about though, was the feeling that it was thrown together at the last second, making it somewhat incoherant at times. And, I know that Xavier dies in cthe comics and is brought back, but it was something O felt should have been left out of X3 as it really served no real purpose other than showcasing the madnes that was Jean Grey. The film as a whole looked like the actors showed up, but weren’t told what to do. Lesson for Mr Ratner, you may be somewhat talented, but Improv is best left for comedy and not a comic book movie. It does not have wuite the same effect. End of lesson.
February 3, 2009

My fingers are wondering off by themselves again
wuite= WTF?
February 3, 2009
#48
X3 failed on many levels, but it was still entertaining. It was a spectacle.
Metallicat, did you stick around after the credits for X3? Did you see the scene at the very end with Moira McTaggert?
February 5, 2009
#49
i guess the only way to become part of the debate is to watch the movie… I SHALL WATCH BURN AFTER READING!
jon,
can u supply? lol
February 5, 2009
#50
I do have Burn After Reading, and I do think you should watch it. Not because I like it and I want you to like it, but because I think you should evaluate everything that we are all saying and make your own decision. It’s all about interpeting the things in the movie. Look at the characters: I thought they were funny. 790 thought they were stupid and gay. But both of our opinions are based on the same thing: the qualities they portray/posses. Check out my top ten films list, and read my mini review on Burn After Reading, and then scroll up on this thread and read 790′s. Then make your own choice.
February 5, 2009
#51
I think I just called them stupid.
“We Are Marshall” that’s gay,,, :)
February 5, 2009
#52
That’s right. I can’t keep tracks of your rants anymore! ;)
My point: 790 doesn’t like the characters, I do. And that’s what I love about movies. There are always different ways of looking at things. People always see and feel different things from the same movies. I honestly don’t think there is a single movie in the history of cinema that is universally hated. A film that literally NO ONE likes.
Even Battlefield Earth had a couple of fans!
February 5, 2009
#53
I did enjoy Brad Pitts Quirky charactor, the best part was when Malkovicj Punched him, I laughed so hard!!
February 5, 2009
#54
@Jon
I did watch the clip at the end of the credits, i thought it was lame and retarded.
February 5, 2009
#55
I’m still amazed that the crap-tastic Battlefield Earth actually had fans. I actually had hopes for it on the visuals alone. Boy did the trailer fool me! That movie made me want to punch a koala bear in the face. I still want my 2 hours back! (Then I learned of Scientology…that answers so many questions…well and raised some too)
Who am I kidding…it just sucked!
February 5, 2009
#56
Metallicat – You didn’t like them bringing Xavier back? That, plus Magneto regaining a bit of his powers in the end, leads me to believe that they will in fact make an X4. It’s only a matter of time.
Battlefield Earth was a MASSIVE disappointment. I expected it to at least be okay, because of Travolta and Forrest Whitaker. I expect more from them. How the hell did they even get involved with a project like this? I can’t imagine a scenario where they allow this film to be released, they had to know how lame it was gonna be by the time they started filming. That’s retarded.
But yes, it is shocking that there are fans of the film. Very shocking. Rotten Tomatoes has it rated at 3%, with an average rating of 2.3/10 But there were a whole 3 people who thought enough about that movie that they would rate it as “fresh” Quickly, for those of you who don’t know about the Rotten Tomatoes rating system, “Fresh” refers to the number of positive reviews. So a whole 3 people enjoyed it! I would’ve never guessed it
February 5, 2009
#57
ok ill do that. u kinda sound like jigsaw “make ur choice” lol
February 5, 2009
#58
“Battlefield Earth” had a real cool scene at the end, when the human hero character transports that explosive material to the alien homeworld and blows up the entire planet.
That was prob the best part of the film. But yeah overall the film was like watching a retarded version on “Planet of the Apes”.
February 5, 2009
#59
Jon, Travolta was the one that wanted to do the film. He always loved the story and fought to get BE produced.
Anyone notice that the human character looked like Tom Cruise.
Everyone in that film was a $cientologist.
February 5, 2009
#60
I just can’t believe Travolta would be that commited to a film like that. Out of curiosity, did he try to defend it after it came out? Now that would be commitment!
February 5, 2009
#61
Oh yeah well the original story of Battlefield Earth was written by the founder of $cientology. El Ron Hubbard.
Travolta might be a good actor buts he’s a whack job in real life. He’s a closet gay, that lives a double life. I’ve heard from more than one source that his son killed himself after a life of $cientology and drugs became too much for him.
Anyone else read the coroners report,,, that kid didn’t die from head trauma, there was no head trauma found by the coroner. Then Travolta flew in his own “$cientology” doctor in to cover everything up…
He’s trapped by the cult of $cientology and he lives a double life. Same with Tom Cruise. Cruise is also a closet gay, that was originally discovered dancing in a gay bar in NY…
February 5, 2009
#62
hahaha… I love conspiracy theories and similar stories.
Tom Cruise is definitely crazy. I feel bad for Katie Holmes. Tom told her she couldn’t be in TDK. I refuse to believe otherwise!
February 5, 2009
#63
thats messed up… lol
as crazy as they both may seem, i do enjoy tom cruises movies for the most part. and i love joh travoltas movies!
dont laugh at me but i recently saw grease all the way through for the first time like a month ago. it was great! lol but im a chick so there u go…
February 5, 2009
#64
Grease was a good movie, for what it was and what it stood for.
They are both clearly crazy, and Tom Cruises movies stink, but I like some of Travolta’s films. Get ready for this one: I enjoyed Broken Arrow! I’m just crazy like that. Christian Slater and John Travolta!
I wasn’t kidding around when I said I tend to have opinions that come from way out in left field. I’ve always been an oddball. See me for opinions on retarded movies, I actually like some of them!
February 5, 2009
#65
Yeah I do enjoy Travolta, he’s always great when he plays a bad guy… I’m able to look past his $cientology lifestyle.
But, Cruise on the other hand sucks and I usually boycott all his films…
That’s cool if you like Dane Cook, I just find his comedy “to in my face”, and spontaneously 8th grade…
February 5, 2009
#66
haha… true 790, he is very “in ur face” but like jon says, its the way he says it thats truly funny imo.
i loved joh travolta in be cool. why hasnt anyone reviewed that one yet? i know its an older one but come on? IT WAS GREAT! vince vaughn was priceless… and it was the only movie where i enjoyed the rock and its only cuz his character was gay. gay guys are awesome! haha
February 5, 2009
#67
Yeah, I get that about Dane. He is pretty immature and very “loud” but that type of stuff typically makes me laugh.
I haven’t seen a good Tom Cruise film in years. I can’t even remember the last good Tom Cruise movie. 790, do you like any of Tom’s older films? Way back when he was at his peak? Top Gun?
February 5, 2009
#68
Be Cool. The sequel to Get Shorty. If you haven’t seen Get Shorty, and you liked Be Cool, you’ll LOVE Get Shorty. Seriously.
Here’s what I will do, because I simply cannot deny a readers request for a review:
I will review in succession Get Shorty and Be Cool for you. Just give me a couple of days!
I also have to work on Atomic Popcorn’s request for a review on The Neverending Story.
Major reviews coming your way people!!!

I remember watching “Risky Business” back in high school with the click I was running around with. I couldn’t figure out why everyone liked that film or Cruise. We were all smoking the same bad pot,,, it was a real wtf moment for me.
“Collateral” and “War of the Worlds” were tolerable. But I really don’t like the guy.
^
Did you Cook fans hear that his brother/accountant ripped him off for millions. Haha!!
Suck on that Dane !!!!
February 5, 2009
#70
@790
L-O-EFFIN-L!!!
what a douche!
collateral was good too! he was a really good bad guy i thought.
February 5, 2009
#71
Collateral was the last good Tom Cruise movie. I didn’t like War of the Worlds.
I said I think Dane Cook is funny. I don’t really care if he gets ripped off. Everyone in Hollywood is over paid anyway.

ok lets see if i can catch up a la Momo:
1) Battlefield Earth: Looked dumb, so i never took the time to watch, i normally enjoy Sci-Fi
2) John Travolta- The on ething I have noticed about Travolta is that, he is kind slipping back into the nothingness that was his career in the 80′s. He is talented, but he really should find some more challenging roles, and even though i did enjoy Wild Hogs, he should avoid any comedies at all costs, because that was what killed his career in the 80′s (look whos talking anyone??). BTW Jon, you were not the only one who enjoyed Broken Arrow, i did as well.
3) Get Shorty is one of the best comedies i have ever watched, but not a lot of people i expose it to really get it and did not like it at all. One of my favorite Travolta flicks. The Sequel was just ok, if it was not for Vince Vaughn, The Rock and Cedric The Entertainer, it would have sucked monkey nuts. The best part was when Elliot (The Rock) is smacking his ass while trying on a cowboy get up.
4) Tom Cruise- never quite right after he played the bad guy in Collateral, he kind of went off the deep end. I liked his Tropic Thnder Cameo, Mission IMpossible III and Colateral. But long gone are the days of Jerry McGuire, Days of Thunder and Minority Report. YOu guys remember those Drug commercials, where it has the chick with the frying the egg. I think the slogan should be changed to, “This is your Brain. (cracks open Egg over frying pan) This is your brain on scientology, any questions?” Scientology is worse than any known hardcore drug out there and costs just about the same.
5)Dane Cook- Never seen his stand up, i have actually tried to avoid him, he comes across as juvinile and crappy in oyour face humor. I will admit though when Kevin Costner smacked him with the shovel and killed him in Mr Brooks, that was awesome. (at least i think it was Dane Cook). Never saw the one with Jessica Alba, not a real fan of Alba, she may be pretty to look at, but thats about it. She is the female version of Keanu Reeves. Very one domensional in her acting.
February 6, 2009
#73
The strange thin is that I actually liked many of Cruise’ movies. Sure he usually plays “TOM” (except for Tropic Thunder…pretty freakin funny IMO), but the guy is pretty good at “TOM-emotions”…that and running. He does a lot of running in his movies.
DOH! I hated him in War of the Worlds! WTF was it with that character? There really wasn’t even a true turning point for him other than to make him even more unlikable. (I guess it was when he “killed for his daughter” but that scene really failed IMO). I loved the first half of this movie but the last half sucked!
I do think that Scientology is destroying Hollywood…well, that and Liberalism, but that’s for another site…
February 6, 2009
#74
Sorry Metallicat, but I thought Wild Hogs was terrible. But I am glad I’m not the only one who liked Broken Arrow. And that joke about Tom Cruise? Brilliant. “This is your brain on Scientology…” LMAO
Mr Brooks was awesome, yes that was Dane Cook, and I thought that was a good performance by Dane. To each his own I guess. I do think you are spot on about Alba though.
Get Shorty : 5 Stars Be Cool: 3 Stars
@JD
Where have I heard that “he does a lot of running in his movies…” joke before? I’m thinking it was a sketch on SNL or something… Your analysis of War of the Worlds is spot on. The first half was pretty good, but the second half was so damn bad that it completely ruined all the good they had built up in the first half.
February 6, 2009

OH YA!!! i forgot he was in tropic thunder… ya ok he was good in that one too. i love the way people cuss like that. it cracks me up every time!
February 6, 2009

He was pretty funny in Tropic Thunder
February 6, 2009

Mr brooks had its moments, but I really actaully did not enjoy it as much i wanted to. It was a bit of a let down for me, what Made Mr Brooks watchable was the fantastic acting that was in it, partculariily from Costner and Hurt.
As for Wild Hogs, I said I enjoyed it, i did not say it was a comedic masterpiece, what made the film enjoyable was William H Macy and John C. McGinley, that was about it. Enjoyable, and craptastic all in one.
February 6, 2009

John C. McGinley is very funny. I love his character on Scrubs. Hilarious.
There was a real lame ass comedy that came out a while ago with Jason Lee and Tom Green, I believe it was called Stealing Harvard. Well, the movie was lame, but McGinley was in it. He played a cop and his character was absolutely hilarious! Anyone remember that one?

I have heard of it, but I avoid Tom Green like the plague, if ever there was a Canadain that was an embarassment to the Great Nation Of Canada, it would be him. But youare right on McGinley is one funny guy, he is the main attraction to Scrubs, I love Dr Cox, he is the man.

Yes he is.
I’ve always thought stupid humor is very funny. So in a way, I like Tom Green a little. Just a little. Some of his stuff is just so ridiculous that I can’t understand it, but some of it is a little funny. But it’s clear to me that Tom Green is desperate for attention and the love of the people. I remember watching an episode of family guy once that had this Tom Green joke in it, where Tom was dressed up in a chicken costume under a cow in the grocery store, sucking milk straight from the teat. He stared at the camera and said “Does anyone out there like me yet?”
I thought it was pretty funny.

i loved wild hogs! john c. mcginley was great in that movie because i was kinda expecting a character like dr cox so it totally threw me off when he got that cheesy smile on his face when they first met him. haha… classic. and jon, ive warmed up to dr. cox. i still think he should be nice to jd tho…
stealing harvard was ok… i think tom greens best thing was “the bum bum song” maybe it was just because i was in like junior highg and really immature when it came out but that song was hilarious. the video was pretty funny too.
for those who havent seen it and have an immature sense of humor like me:
