Universal Studios, outbid Paramount, New Rengency, and MGM last week to obtain the rights to produce an unreleased Electronic Arts video game property currently titled, Dante’s Inferno.
Strike Entertainment Partners, Eric Newman, and Marc Abraham will produce with Electronic Arts. E.A. Entertainment’s Patrick O’Brien, and game creator Jonathan Knight will be closely involved in the development of the film.
The game maker intends to become more closely involved with movie, and tv transfers of its games. Making a movie deal well before the games release will give E.A. a shot at seeing a movie released closer to the beginning of the games life cycle.
This marks the second video game / film concept Universal has locked down in the last few weeks. Recently Universal obtained the rights to produce the screen version of Army of Two. The screen version of Army of Two, will be written by Scott Z Burns (Bourne Ultimatum), and produced by Scott Stuber.
Both the Dante’s inferno game, and movie involve a journey through the depths of hell.
Well I was just saying the other day that I sure would like to see a movie all about HELL. Yeh huh???
