According to a brief article in EW magazine, Steven Spielberg’s Abraham Lincoln biopic is still in the works. Liam Neeson, fresh from the success of his recent action flick Taken, still wants the lead role in the film. In the interview, he mentioned that he wants to jump right into Honest Abe’s shoes for his next film. The project was announced way back in 2001, when Dreamworks obtained the rights. Since then, the film has been on a roller-coaster ride of on again highs and off again lows. It was supposed to begin production in early 2006, with Neeson to star and Sally Field rumored to be playing Marry Todd Lincoln. Insiders believe that Spielberg is anxious to start the project, and wants to begin production later this year with an eye on a release in 2011. Now, none of this is confirmed, and it is important for all you Lincoln fans to remember that people said the same things about this film for years.
First of all, I chose to add a large image of the two side by side so you can easily compare the two, and decide for yourself if Neeson could play a good Abe Lincoln. Now, I don’t know about you, but I am a big Neeson fan, and a big fan of Abe Lincoln. I love his work on the five dollar bill. So I think Neeson as Lincoln is a perfect fit. Neeson has the acting chops to pull off a powerful performance, as this one would almost certainly be. He’d have to be stoic, poised, and command attention every time he enters the room. Hopefully this time they actually start production on the biopic, because I honestly can’t wait to see it. What better way to teach a new generation about being a good president is there? Right, there is no better way. Stay tuned!
