First off, thanks to JoBlo for exposing me to this. Isn’t this great? To be honest, despite all the buzz surrounding this film, I have had a hard time getting excited about this movie. For those of you who don’t know what this flick is all about, here is the official synopsis:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man, like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918 to the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man’s life can be.
Thank you IMDB. Now that you know, here is my issue with this movie, before I saw this picture of course. How exactly was this going to happen? Was he born a full grown wrinkled old man? How could his mother possibly survive that? Ok, I am being a little sarcastic here, but generally speaking I thought the premise was rather silly. Now that I have seen this picture, I know the premise is rather silly. I defy you to look at this pic and not chuckle, even just a little bit. We can now reasonably assume that when the film shows Mr Button as a 5 year old, he will be essentially a little person with wrinkles. How am I supposed to take that seriously? It is a little disturbing too.
I know what a lot of people are going to say. The movie is not about all of that nonsense. Its drama, a man who is completely different from everyone else in the world. And he gets to live out a completely unique life. I get that. And I’m sure it’s very good. But I just can’t get past the whole little man, many wrinkles thing. A 5 year old with liver spots. Am I the only one? I’ll see this movie, no doubt about that. I have to, so I can appreciate the Golden Globes and the Oscars even more. But I will not be seeing it for the same reason as most everyone would. What do you think?
