The world’s most beloved robot truck will be back for more as Michael Bay is set to direct the fourth edition of the Transformers movie series. The Transformers empire has continued to be one of the most popular series with television shows, books, movies, computer games, and even a theme park ride springing from the story of the fight between good and evil — the Autobots versus the Decepticons.
Leader of the Pack
Despite a lower-than-expected response for Dark of the Moon, Bay is confident that the fourth edition to the series will reignite the excitement. This latest release is due to introduce new robots, but the “Godfather” will remain — Optimus Prime will continue to lead the Autobots flock. Prime is well-known and well-loved and is considered by many as a positive role model for an action-filled movie. His high morals and kind mannerisms see him as a star among the fighting robots and he is crucial to the continuation of the Autobots’ story.
Despite Bay stating that the third movie would be his last, he told the Huffington Post that after seeing the popularity of the Transformers ride at Universal Studios “I thought I was done, then the ride came out. And then you’re thinking, Oh my God, someone’s going to take this over,” Bay said. “And you start doing a lot of soul-searching. The studio says they want to restart the franchise, and someone could come in here and screw it up, you know?”
Out of This World
According to ScreenRant.com, the new movie release may head away from planet Earth and will involve new human and robot characters — however, these characters are yet to be cast. Shia LaBeouf is not expected to return. The introduction of new robots also includes a redesign and the story is considered to be more “serious.”
It is also expected that the new storyline will set up the possibility for the beginning of a new trilogy that will most likely have a new director. Despite this, fans have been told not to fret too much — there will still be continuity from the past movies and it will not stray too far from the current story line.
Bay has stated that Transformers 4 will be the last he will direct in the series, however, he has stated that with the past two movies as well, so we’re waiting to see it before we believe it. In the mean time, Bay is soon to be releasing his latest work, Pain and Gain.
Michael Bay Update: Any Bay fans out there may be excited to discover his latest upcoming series The Last Ship. According to Deadline.com, this TNT drama is about a naval ship crew that find themselves as the last survivors after a catastrophe on Earth. The pilot is set to be directed by Jonathan Mastow and written by Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane. Michael Bay will be executive producer on the project.
