Universal to Produce Dante’s Inferno Movie

Universal Studios, outbid Paramount, New Rengency, and MGM last week to obtain the rights to produce an unreleased Electronic Arts video game property currently titled, Dante’s Inferno.

Strike Entertainment Partners, Eric Newman, and Marc Abraham will produce with Electronic Arts. E.A. Entertainment’s Patrick O’Brien, and game creator Jonathan Knight will be closely involved in the development of the film.

The game maker intends to become more closely involved with movie, and tv transfers of its games. Making a movie deal well before the games release will give E.A. a shot at seeing a movie released closer to the beginning of the games life cycle.

This marks the second video game / film concept Universal has locked down in the last few weeks. Recently Universal obtained the rights to produce the screen version of Army of Two. The screen version of Army of Two, will be written by Scott Z Burns (Bourne Ultimatum), and produced by Scott Stuber.

Both the Dante’s inferno game, and movie involve a journey through the depths of hell.

Well I was just saying the other day that I sure would like to see a movie all about HELL. Yeh huh???

  1. I love how that cave looks kinda like the MOVIEGUYS logo…

    I said kinda,,, :-)

  2. I can kind of see it!

  3. This might actually work. But only if they focus on making a great movie before making a great game. I mean, lets face it, there is more money to be had for all involved if the movie tie-in is really good. Then they have a proper basis for a good video game. As a gamer, I can say that a really good game needs a good plot, and it needs to be visually and mentally stimulating. Well, you can get all of that from the really good movie you made, and then BAM! You have a good game.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that it is harder to make a good movie than it is to make a good game. So make the movie good, and then the game will be good. But Hollywood doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to video game adaptations. So focus on the movie!!!

  4. Oh, and I would probably enjoy this movie, if done right. The name alone screams potential!

  5. Yeah that’s exactly what Universal and EA are trying to do Deadpool, produce a video game, and movie at the same time… (Inevitable)

Kinda a weird subject matter. The classic book “Dante’s Inferno” was all about the 9 levels of hell,,,
I can see how the game will prob have 9 levels as well,,,

Guarantee you it will be rated PG-13. Lol

  6. PG-13 flick about the 9 levels of Hell? Oh that is going to be fantastic!

  7. Lmao,,,,

Read my review of “This Film is Not Yet Rated”.

  8. I never really saw the logic in Dante’s vision as Milton’s of hell. The devils nature being disobedient, I would think it would be equally spiteful to not punish people that were basically like himself. God being tormented that disobedience is constantly growing rather than a prison where the majority would like to get out because of constant suffering.
