A few days ago you may have noticed that SkynetResearch.com went live. I know, it has been around for a while, but the website is now more than just an “enter your email for updates page.” It has some concept art for some robots that we may see in the new film, Terminator Salvation, and some other neat things.
I would say I spent a good two hours scouring the website for interesting information, and any hidden tidbits that the marketing team may have added. My original thoughts were to report my findings here on MovieGuys, but because of my horrible procrastination habits that hasn’t happened yet. To be completely honest I thought the website was kind of boring. Sure, it was neat, but all of the information there just seemed kind of bland to me.
So what did I find?
Right away, I was able to detect that the website uses a system called Wordpress. For those of you who don’t know, Wordpress is an open source blogging platform used by many different websites across the net including MovieGuys. The nerd in me found this very exciting. But enough about the technical side.
The next very interesting thing I found was the Outreach section. In this section you can submit and view designs for robots. I am a big fan of the robotics community, but was quickly distracted by the next section titled, “Enhancement Module – Model 101.” They had some information regarding the module, and two very, very vague videos featuring the model 101.
As I continued to read the page, I found a link to “Request A Module.” I was kind of reluctant at first, but thought what the hell, and submitted my information. I was very shocked to check my mail today and find a package addressed to me. What shocked me even more, was the return address, Skynet Research. I was quick to open the package, and low and behold, they sent me a Model 101.
It doesn’t do much of anything other than blink some lights, but it still made my day. Personally, I never expected to receive anything from Skynet Research other than an email or two.
I snapped a few photos of the module, it’s packaging, and instructions to share with everyone. I would like to apologize for the poor quality of the images, I seem to have misplaced my camera and the pictures were shot with my cell phone. Be sure to click on the images to see them in their full sized glory. I have also included a video of the module in action.
So what do you guys think of my spiffy new Enhancement Module?

I got one too. To be completely honest, when the site started adding new content, I considered writing something to cover it, a follow up to my last post about viral marketing and the whole “skynet research” thing. But, just like you, I found it to be boring and lame. Definitely not worthy of anyone’s time unless you are really really bored or are really really into mechanics or robotics.
Still, it is cool that they are sending things out to people. Metallicat/F2B79 or whatever you are calling yourself these days, you would probably be able to get one. But it’s not that big a deal, really.

It is the equivalent of a mcdonalds toy to be honest, but still a neat item to add to your collection. My movie collection is huge so I am still excited to have it.
Just go to http://www.skynetresearch.com/robot-community/ and at the bottom of the page is the place to request one.

I don’t mind the constantly changing gravatars but the name thing throws me off.

Yeah, I get the changing pics. I constantly feel the need to freshen things up by re-arranging my home, changing my hair/facial hair styles, and even constantly listening to different music each and every day, rotating albums/bands/genres out after listening for no longer than a week. So I get the need for change, but if you keep at least ONE thing the same, people will always know who you are. So find something you like and stick with it!

How about Captain Canuck? He is like Captain American, but rather than grabbing a gun and start blasting, he sits down with the enemy for peaceful negotiations and takes them out for dinner afterwards, and never foregets to Please and Thank You and for somer reseon always apologizes for something that was not his fault, but he feels guilty anyways?

All right Stan Lee. I’m pissed off at you pretty bad right now. Why in the hell would you not tell me about this!? The 101 looks like the coolest thing since sliced bread! You know it has some sort of micro electronic/ robotic intigration technology that is going to take control of all your electronics on a predetermined date, right? Right?! You wait it’s gonna happen. You won’t be able to find the circuitry because it’s micro and it is embeded in the plastic. I totaly wanted to be part of the robotic revolution and you ruined that! They are out of modules!!! Damn it!!

Oh, by the way. How do you get those neat little pictures by your name?

@BBB
To get the pictures go to http://www.gravatar.com, and sign up using the same email you use here. Upload a picture and wait a few hours and magically your picture will show up by your name. I really need to figure out a way to let people know about that lol.
And regarding your attitude towards me about the module, Go TO HELL! I distinctly remember calling you last night and telling you all about it, or telling you about something at least. Either way, if you want a module, just follow these simple steps.
How to make your own SkynetResearch Enhancement Module – Model 101
1. Go to sears and buy (one) replacement garage door opener.
2. Disassemble the garage door opener, and remove all of the electronics that make it work.
3. Put the empty plastic shell back together.
You now have a home-made enhancement module, lol.

I agree with many of you about most of your comments and I disagree with others. But in general, I agree. Except for a few disagreements. I hadn’t really put any thought into my gravatar, but I am open to suggestion. I do like Stan Lee’s PBR idea. It is very appropriate. That reminds me Stan, I need to show you the pic of the guy with the PBR coffin. 3B out.
