“Cheech and Chong: The Concert Movie” Get’s High on Weinstein CO
The Weinstein Company (TWC), has scored the worldwide theatrical, homevid, digital and tv rights to the upcoming Cheech and Chong: The Concert Movie. The deal includes Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, and the duo’s managers, Ben Feigin and Josh Klein.
Cheech and Chong: The Concert Movie will get baked in March 2009, during a San Diego stop on the “Light Up America” tour, which sparked up on Sept 26th. The concert movie, isn’t likely to provide most of its stash from theaters, a change from the days of Up In Smoke and Next Movie. A cable tv spot, and DVD sales are expected to generate most of the cash. Profits from the Cheech & Chong films of the late 70’s and early 80’s have ranged from 20mil to 40mil, far exceeding their production costs.
This marks Cheech & Chongs first tour together in 25 years. During the Aspen Comedy Festival in 2005 the pair reunited on stage, but that appearance involved none of their original material, and was more of a Q & A session. Barry Gordon (TWC Exec Vp of Homevid) said: “The film is a must-see event for the many fans who grew up listening to their recordings and watching their movies.” (No word yet on a release date)
I used to love watching Cheech & Chong films back in the day. We would always wonder if they were really stoned or just faking it. This sounds very cool. Its great that Cheech & Chong finally put aside there personal issues and reunited.
“Dave are you in there, I got the stuff.” :-/

Excelent news! I was so glad to hear they are back together again.
Yeah me too Stan, I just hope there still funny,,, I know that Chong dosnt smoke anymore. :-(
Ether way this looks like another dvd I’ll be forced to purchase…
I have my doubts. You can’t just come back after years away and expect to pick up where you left off. Especially since Chong doesn’t smoke anymore. I want it too be great, because those movies are hilarious whether or not you chose to “partake.”
Good point Jon,,, I did see them at the recent Alma Awards and they wernt that funny.
I don’t know if they can capture what they did back in the 70’s. It was a diiferent time then,,, but I’m willing to check out this film.
chong still has it guys. he may not smoke anymore, but his humor is still there.
personally I think cheech will be the let down.
Really?!? Wow. Interesting Stan-Lee!
I know that Chong is still funny, but it’s just not the same style of humor that worked so well in the Cheech and Chong movies. I’ll see it too, because I’m a sucker and will watch anything.
Chong is still a stoner, whether he still smokes or not. You cant smoke pot for decades, and expect to be normal when you decide to quit.
Did you see his appearances on That 70’s show? He is still great. I heard him on John Boy and Billy a few months ago, and a callers name was dave, of course Chong took off on the “Daves not here” bit.
If anything Cheech is not going to be the same. Cheech has been trying to get serious roles for years. He has become nothing more than a professional mexican.
Yeah, I just now realized I had the two confused. Talk about a stoner moment, and I’m pretty far removed from my “High” school years.
You are completely right Stan, and I’m a jack-ass
Just a heads up I’m going to be doing a dvd review of, “A.K.A. Tommy Chong” the 2008, documentary that chronicles Tommy’s post prison stand-up material and more,,,
Stay tuned ,,, :-)
