Heading to the theater last night I hadn’t decided which film I would be watching yet. It was either Bangkok Dangerous, or College. Personally I think that College is going to suck but I had decided I would leave it up to my friends to decide which film we watched seeing as how I will most likely wind up watching them both eventually.
So we get to the theater and I was thrilled when everyone agreed upon Bangkok Dangerous. I am a HUGE Nicholas Cage fan, and have been excited to see his new film for months now. But part of me was concerned that it was going to suck. Here lately you can’t really predict which way Nicholas Cage will go. Some of his movies are awesome (Lord of War) and others just make me sick to think about (The Wicker Man). My concerns grew even more when I received an email from a friend of mine saying that it sucked.
While watching the film I was quick to realize why my friend was so disappointed. You see he is a hard core action fan, and the underlying love story between Cage and his love interested (sorry, don’t know her name) was just too much for him. Personally, I thought there was an excellent balance between romance, action, and drama.
Bangkok Dangerous was an excellent film in my book. Highlighted by a great story, amazing action scenes, and a great cast. It is rare for me to really like every aspect of a film, but this is a case where I really have no complaints. Parts of the film are pure brilliance, and the cast has out done themselves to ensure a great show.
Cage is well on his way to recovering his carreer after some of the crap he has played in. I really look forward to his future work.
