Alien Covenant Film Review

May 14, 2017 By Ross Leave a Comment

Alien Covenant is the sequel to Prometheus or the prequel to Alien and sees Ridley Scott in the director’s chair once again to direct this next installment which very much goes back to its sci-fi horror routes and gives the audience what that want and expect from an alien film.

The film continues where Prometheus left off and features a new crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet to discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a carrying escape.

Alien Covenant: The Good

Alien Covenant is made with the target audience in mind and is a crowd-pleaser filled with nostalgic moments giving long term Alien fans what they wanted to see in Prometheus as well as intentionally hoping to scare a new generation of film buffs.

Katherine Waterson [Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them], stars as Daniels, the ship’s second in command who shares a similar resemblance to Sigourney Weavers Ripley in terms of stubbornness, bravery, and strength. She is perfect in the role and she makes for a great lead heroine who will hopefully see in further movies [as one one more alien sequel is being written].

Michael Fassbender [Prometheus], who has the tough task playing two androids in the movie, one being the Covenant’s super butler, Walter who is more mating than human and Prometheus survivor, David. he is fantastic on screen and portrays a Hannibal Lecture style screen presence.

Danny McBride plays Tennessee, the Covenant’s pilot and usually known for foul-mouthed comedies stars in his first horror movie role and almost plus the film straight-faced with an accessional much needed comic relief from the violence and gore.

Other members of the Covenant crew include Billy Crudup [Public Enemies], as the ship’s captain, remain Bichir [The Hateful Eight], as Lope’, and Callie Hernandez [Blair Witch], as Upworth.

Alien Covenants pleasures are giving the audience what they hope and expect from an alien movie in terms of violence and gore [there is plenty to satisfy horror fans here], as well as the sci-fi element of asking questions about creation and humanity.

Ridley Scott also pays detail to use practical effects as much as possible over the use of CGI, interns of the gore its mostly all practical effects and bringing back some of the creatures fans have come to love from the previous alien movies.

Alien Covenant: Conclusion

Overall, Alien Covenant is the perfect alien film giving fans what they hope and expect and then some. It plays out like almost an alien greatest hits playlist and is sure to do the legacy of the Alien franchise justice.
