Mandate International has sold the sequel rights for 30 Days of Night to American Film Market and we will soon be getting a sequel! You may remember the film centers around a small Alaskan town that is plunged into darkness for a month each year as the sun sinks below the horizon. This sets the scene for an attack by a gang of vampires bent on destruction. And the only thing standing between the people of the town and certain doom are Sheriff Eben Oleson, as played by Josh Hartnett, and his wife Stella, as played by Melissa George.
Warning! Spoilers Lie Ahead! You may remember at the end of the first film, Josh Hartnett’s character realizes that he must become a vampire so that he may run them off himself. As the rays of sun rise over the town, he dies in his wife’s arms. The sequel, which will be written by by the first film’s co-writer and graphic novel creator Steve Niles, seems to be centered around Melissa George’s character Stella seeking revenge on the vampires that she blames for the loss of her husband. It will not have anything to do with the actual sequel to the graphic novel, “30 Days of Night: Return to Barrow” where one of the victims of the original attack becomes the new sheriff and defends the town from another vampire attack.
I don’t know about you, but I personally loved the first film, so I am very excited about a sequel. I just can’t wait to see more bloody vampire action!
