Okay, I know this is a movie site. But I’m sure that if you’re here, you probably watch t.v too. Most people do nowadays. Ever watch “South Park?” I do. “South Park” is one of my favorite shows. Many people find it to be a vulgar and disgusting show. The movie, “South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Un-Cut” was viewed in the same way. It was rude, crude and disgusting. But if you really look at the show, there is more to it than just gross-out jokes and vulgarity. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the writers and creators of the show, have a very special ability to hide very critical social commentary in their show and all of their movies (which include, if you did not know: “Orgazmo,” “Cannibal: The Musical,”the aforementioned South Park film, “Baseketball,” and “Team America: World Police.” ) Their work is full of it, and that is the reason I will always be a fan of their work.
Why do I bring this all up, you ask? Well, in an interview by the Los Angeles Times, Trey Parker discusses his plans for the future of South Park. Fans have been wanting to see a sequel for quite some time, and Parker and Stone had an idea for another movie to give to all the fans. They were saving this idea for quite some time. But last season on the show, the two were running out of ideas. They were in a bit of a creative slump. So they had to use their idea for the next South Park movie. And their movie idea ended up being the South Park three part mini-series called “Imagination land.” If you have not seen the show, let me give you a brief recap. The boys meet a rather odd, eclectic man who says he wants to take them to a magical place, it was rather creepy. They board a magic balloon and fly off to “Imagination Land.” It is a place where everything man has ever imagined lives. There is a wall there that separates the good imaginary characters, from the evil ones. Long story short, terrorists attack imagination land, prompting the government to release a statement saying that terrorists have taken over our imaginations (there is that social commentary, think about it!) Well, the terrorists break down the wall and the evil imaginary characters invade the good side and quickly begin to brutally murder the good characters. Only Butters, and his imagination, can save imagination land! This was actually a fantastic series of episodes. The guys had a chance to feature a ton of different imaginary characters that all sorts of people would recognize. Some good characters included Luke Skywalker, Jesus, and Santa Claus. Some of the bad included Predators, Aliens, The Joker, and Jason Vorhees. It was great. Would have made a great movie. If you have not seen these episodes, please check them out. They were fantastic.
But the interview was not just about the movie that almost was. Parker said that his plan for the end of South Park, whenever that is, is to end on the big screen. That’s right folks, there will be another South Park movie! Unfortunately, it will most likely be the last we will see of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman. Personally, I’m conflicted here. I don’t want the show to ever end, but I want another movie pretty badly. I guess if it’s time to go, that is a really good way to do it. What do you guys think? Should the show end with a movie?

Southpark has really been hit or miss the past few seasons and the ratings are definitely not what they were 5 years ago.
I see an end in the near future, and I hope there is. South Park is one of my favorite shows but I would much rather it end before it sucks so bad i just quit watching it.

Yeah, can’t disagree with you Stan. I would hate to see it on the air when it’s past it’s prime. They really are running out of good ideas. Hopefully they come up with a great movie idea soon. But Imagination Land was really special. I would have loved to see it as a movie on the big screen.

Your a towel,,,!
Ah very good post Jon, yeah I’m a big fan of “South Park”. I have to catch the show on dvd, so I’m a little behind on the seasons. I’m currently in the middle of season 9. That one has the infamous “Trapped in the Closet” episode.
I usually find time to watch the show after a shitty day at work or when I need a good laugh. “South Park” always delivers. It is amazing how even with all the adult humor Matt & Trey find ways to include a message…
Its truly a brilliant show. (ImO) the show has vastly improved since the first few seasons…
I do have seasons 10 and 11 as well, I might have to sneak ahead a bit and watch “Imagination land” as I see its in season 11. Hahaa!!!
I’m not surprised that Matt & Trey would end the show in movie form. These guys have a bright future making comedies. I see them as extremely more talented then a lot of other so-called new talent out there…
Apatow and Smith better watch they’re backs !!!
“Team America” (IMO) was there best film so far,,,!!!
Funny if you watch “This Film Is Not Yet Rated” (see my MOVIEGUYS re-view)
Trey Parker discusses how when “Bigger Longer and Uncut” was going through the MPAA for a rating, the MPAA nazis said that the original title “South Park goes to Hell” would get them the “R” rating. So they changed it ,,, several weeks went by and the MPAA called them back and said, “ah we get what your doing and we need you to change it”. Trey’s response was that the title had already gone to print at that it couldn’t be changed.
Since the MPAA had already agreed they really couldn’t do anything to stop it…
South Park 1 ,MPAA, O

Definitely watch Imagination land 790, its hilarious. One of the best series of episodes ever. I’m kind of sad, cause this would’ve made a great movie. Just think of all the things they could get away with in that concept, with an R rated movie… Imagine the possibilities. And the return of Al Gore’s nemesis in the series was great too. If you’re a fan of the show you know what I’m talking about.
I think the South Park movie was really great, I loved Cartman’s profanity laced “finishing move” toward the end of the movie. Dirty tampon and Barbara Streisand! Zing!!!
Team America was hilarious too. The songs really made that movie for me. Pearl Harbor sucked and the Team America theme song were the best ones.
Did you see the other movies from Trey and Matt 790? If not you absolutely have to. They are great, fans of South Park would definitely appreciate them. My personal favorite is BASEketball. I still quote that movie in a daily basis, 10 years later.
“Oh Sweet! Does that couch fold out into a bed?”
“Yeah, a totally sweet bed. But thats Jenkins bed. Your bed is over here (points to cardboard doggy bed in corner)”
“That is so fucking weak. How am I supposed to get a chick in that?”
“Oh don’t worry, you couldn’t get a chick if you had a hundred dollar bill hanging out of your zipper!”

Dude, if you haven’t seen BASEketball, as a fan of South Park you are duty bound to watch it. It is my favorite comedy of all time. So it goes a little like this: Trey and Matt play 2 slackers who invent a game (mix between basketball and baseball, hence the name) it gets popular enough to get the offer to go pro. The owner of Trey and Matt’s team, who is also the major financial backer and creator of the pro league, dies. The team, and the league, will be passed to Trey via the will if Trey’s team can win the BASEketball championship. Pretty common premise for the time. It really rips on sports, so if you watch any kind of sport there is something extra there for you. The great thing is, if you don’t watch sports, there is more than enough jokes here to have you rolling. The sports thing is just the icing on the cake!
Orgazmo was pretty good, not great like Team America or BASEketball, but good. And Cannibal the musical? Well it was their first film, and it was laugh out loud, rolling on the ground funny. But good luck finding it. I think I have one of the few DVD copies in existence. Took me 3 years of serious searching before I found it at Borders. Look there.
Even Rocky had a montage!…

What did you think of Imagination Land Bear?
790, if you can find them both, I don’t think you would be disappointed. Especially if you really enjoyed the South Park movie. That was very much like a musical, very similar to Cannibal the musical. Cannibal had more songs, but they were all funny. And if you look closely, Trey and Matt cast their friends in both those movies. You’ll see them. I love it when people get big in the movie business, and still hook up their friends.
Anyway, two really great movies. I recommend to ANYONE who enjoys South Park!

I liked Imaginationland, but I didnt love it.
I loved the first movie, what really did it for me was the fact that they made it a musical.
By the way, has anyone here seen Orgazmo?

I really liked Imagination Land, especially when i saw that they incorporated the diabolical Woodland Critters. It was really funny the first time I saw it, when it actually aired on TV. But now that I have watched it a couple times, its losing its funniness. But whereas when I watch Bigger, Longer, Uncut I still laugh just as hard as I did the first time I watched it, so I still like the first one better.

I agree Bear, the more I watch it, the less funny “Imagination Land” becomes. I think it may have been different as a movie, but no matter what it would have been, I doubt it wouldve been better than the original movie. It was really great.
I’ve seen Orgazmo too Stan. It was pretty funny. I had a hard time finding it on DVD though.

It used to air late nights on HBO and Showtime. Not sure if it still does. Thats where I first saw it. I had to order my copy from some internet DVD sales site. Try google searching the movie. It was really good. Great premise. I bet you could pick it up for under 10 bucks now. But you were right not to watch the super censored version. It would have ruined the movie for you.

Orgazmo, is easy to find out here in LA. I picked up the “Special Edition” for under 10 bucks at Best Buy,,,
It has the original version, and the NC-17 version,,, its also has 3 commentaries one is a (CWI) commentary while intoxicated,,, a cast commentary, and a commentary with Wierd Al Yankovic, and Keven Smith. (Wtf)
Holly crap Jon, as I read the rest of the Special Features what do I see,,, The Book of Orgazmo: An educational documentary about the legend of Orgazmo, and the lost Trey Parker Musicals, “CANNIBAL THE MUSICAL and Timewarped.
Behind the scenes feature, 50 min of interviews. 40 min of outtakes, additional interviews with Matt, Trey and some adult film stars. And easter eggs.
Holy crap that’s a lot of stuff, this might call for a dvd re-view… 8-O
