Saw V - Review

Saw V

Saw V

Well, a great deal of people said this movie would be a flop and it was getting to be an old series. Other people said that this series is just getting started and will continue forever like the James Bond of horror films. I’m not really sure. I left this movie feeling like it could go either way really. It was a very good film and it answered a lot of questions that I had about how things came to be. It was one of those “tie up the loose ends” sequels. I really enjoyed it, I think mostly because of the complicated contraptions that they come up with. I am one of those people who like to be suprised in a movie and there were a couple of surprises in this one. Not as many twists as I would have liked but hey I can’t complain about it. I also like how they keep the actors coming back. It would be really confusing to have different actors in this film than say the first two. And by that I mean they recap some of what happened and I would not know who did what. A lot of shit happens in each movie and it would probably ruin the movie for me.  I would recommend this film to fans of the first movies or at least to people who have seen all of the ones before. Otherewise it might not be worth going to see.

Bear

I love watching movies with my wife and my friends (yes I have one or two). One day when I am old this will be my full time job.

  1. So Bear, does this film tie up the loose ends with Jigsaw, or does it just leave us with another cliffhanger ending.
    I need to know!!!

  2. I felt it tied everything up very nicely but there is still room to do more in the future if they decide to go further. It leaves room and yet it gives an end also. Its a very ambiguous ending.

  3. Ah very cryptic Bear, very cryptic,,,

  4. I have been a fan of the Saw films since it’s inception. And I find that odd, because I have not been a fan of the other flicks that fall into the “gore-porn” category, which seems to be a popular way of making horror movies these days. Anyway, it did tie up loose ends quite nicely, and the traps were very clever. I feel like this is the best Saw film since Saw 2, but since they churn these things out every year, I guess thats not a very long time.

I do wish they would stop putting out a new Saw every Halloween. I’ve heard the arguements that it is becoming a Halloween tradition, but I must disagree. I think the films, while not altogether bad, could be a whole lot better if they were released less frequently. Make people wait a while to get their Saw fix. Thats part of the overall enjoyment factor. It seems like you are a fan of the series Bear, so I ask you… Would you like to see the films consistantly churned out, or do you think they may recieve a boost from a little time off?

Anyone else have an opinion on this?

  5. Deadpool,,, I really liked the first 3 “Saw”, films…
I thought they made a nice package, but 4 was a mess of hard to follow “Dexter style” cop drama that ended in killing the cop from the 2nd film, and then ultimately ended in capturing the cop in 4th film. (Right?)

I read that this series was going to end at 5,,, wtf???
Did you like this current film Deadpool was it better than the last mess???

  6. Well, yes 790. I thought this was a good movie. I am a Saw fan, so much so that this film got me out of bed and into a theater for the first time since my surgery 2 months ago.
I’ll agree that 4 was hard to follow, and I’ve left the theater with questions in my head after all of the previous Saw films. But 5 tied everything up nicely. It’s not one of my favorite horror films (I’m an old school kinda guy) but for the 5th entry in a modern horror franchise, it was good.

I am old school, and I don’t believe that you have to depict disgusting scenes of mutilation to scare people. These movies are more gross than they are scary. Maybe thats why I like them so much. I like gross stuff (I’m a garbage pail kid. Please tell me someone here remembers that!) But horror movies just haven’t really been scary in a while. I liked the Strangers. That movie was truly scary, and didn’t need much blood at all. Horror is situational. Play out a moment on screen that the audience can easily imagine theirselves being in, and they will be scared. I’ve been in the middle of nowhere alone. Thats why I liked the Strangers.

How did I get so far off subject? Sorry, just felt the need to rip off a little rant there.

  7. I’ll have to check out Saw5, on dvd,,,

Yeah “The Strangers” looks very creepy,,,

  8. The Strangers was one of the scariest I have seen in a while. I may have actually jumped while watching it. I am very hard to startle.

I like both kinds of those films i like the really gory ones and the ones that just scare the shit out of you. I also like the unpredictable ones too, it seems these days that every movie I see is just way too predictable.

  9. Definitely Bear. Movies have been way too easy to predict these days. What ever happened to originality?

The Strangers scared me because I usually go camping twice a year, and every couple of years I rent a cabin way out in the middle of nowhere. After seeing that movie, I’m not sure if I’ll be doing that any time soon. I might just have to stay within screaming distance of other people!
