Role Models - Review
What were your expectations for Role Models? Did you think it would be hillarious? Or did you think it would suck. Perhaps you thought it would be somewhere in between. Personally i was looking for the film to royally suck. It had all of the makings to be a horrible film. It looked very predictable, and looked like the story has been told again and again, but guess what? Role Models was hillarious!
Raunchy comedies seem to be all of the rage these days. Some of them were great (Superbad anyone?), and others were horrid. Role Models has to be one of the great ones.
I had some very low expectations for Role Models. Yes, the previews were hillarious, but the film just looked so predictable. You know, the same old cliche, two guys get community service, hate it, but wind up loving it. look at that I just gave away the entire film. However, if you look past the overall story, you will find a hillarious film. It was almost like a film featuring two of my favorite characters, McLovin and Stiffler.
I know it is a stretch to say McLovin, but i think you will see many similarities, between Christopher Charles Mintz-Plasse’s character in Role Models, and Superbad. Yeah, Chris was way cooler in Superbad, but he carries over his same personality and style of humor into Role Models. I see a very bright future for him in comedy films, I just hope McLovin isn’t killed by sequels.
Seann William Scott’s role in the film was a refreshing look back on what made him famous in the first place, Stiffler. Honestly, does anyone ever see Seann William Scott and not think “Hey, it’s Stiffler!” I personally feel that Scott has been trying to bring back the “Stiffler” style of comedy, and I finally think he has pulled it off. This is the first film since the original American Pie that I fealt that Scott really had it all going on.
To make a long review short, Role Models is a filthy, crude, raunchy film, that deserved it’s R rating. I highly suggest anyone who likes crude humor to take a trip to see Role Models. The cast was excellent, and I was so glad to see such a good balance of comedy between the entire cast. This would have been an unbeatable film if it wasn’t for the predictable story. It is still an awesome film, but I don’t see it becoming a classic, anytime soon.

Yeah, I saw it last night and I loved it! I’ve really come to expect greatness from films featuring members of the Apatow gang. They are just plain funny.
Oh, and Superbad is probably the funniest movie of the last decade for me. Potentially longer. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera made a fantastic comedy duo. But as much as I loved Superbad, I’m gonna be so pissed if they make a sequel. Don’t ruin it guys!
Mintz-Plasse is set to star in a couple of comedies coming out in the next 2 years or so. My personal favorite concept is Year One. Can’t wait for more genious from Comedy god Judd Apatow!
Maybe I’ll rent this???
Everytime I see that poster that shows Sean W.Scott with the caption, “I’m not a role model” I wish some clever tagger would spray paint the words (in clean english puto!) “I’m a crappy actor”…
That would be great !
i wanted to see this before i found out that david wain was a co-writer for this movie. when i found out i made it a must see. i was not disappointed at all. david wain never disappoints me with anything he does! paul rudd was amazing in this movie and i dont understand why hes not more famous. hes such a great actor and hes so funny!
i highly suggest this one. it was a feel good movie but it was still hilarious.
btw… for anyone who doesnt know who david wain is, in this movie he was the balding guy with the glasses trying to play guitar when they went to camp. and hes one of my heroes :]
