Max Payne has really been getting some heat this week. People have really been putting it down despite the fact that it was #1 at the box office. I have seen Max Payne, and here is what I think…
Max Payne is all about what you make of it. If you go into the theater with a knowledge of Max Payne, or if you are a huge Max Payne fan then be prepared to be disappointed. From the eyes of a Payne fan I can see how this movie would have really sucked. The film is definitely a disgrace to Max Payne. It almost seemed to be a cheap Punisher - meets sci-fi rip-off. It may just be me but I just felt that the two plots were very similar. You know, the typical you killed my family now I am going to kill you in the most dramatic way possible.
However, for the few of you reading that are able to push everything you know about Max Payne out of your head, it is actually a decent film. Not an “awesome film” but definitely worth watching. That is if you forget everything you previously knew about Max Payne. Basically, remove Max Payne from the title. Personally i feel there would be a lot more positive reviews if the film were not called Max Payne, but rather something different. Maybe just say it is LOOSELY based on Max Payne. The fact that they called it Max Payne kind of doomed the film from the get go in my opinion.
Personally i felt that the film was a perfect mix of sci-fi and reality, but there is one thing, or person, that really surprised me. Who you may ask? None other than Mila Kunis. I can’t believe how well she was able to pull off quite possibly the most bad ass part in the entire film. I never expected Mila to be able to step up to this role, but she really did. My biggest gripe with Mila was the fact that she wasn;t on the screen nearly enough.
So what is my final thought? This is one of the few films that I can honestly say you must see it for yourself. You may think it sucks, you may enjoy it, but you must decide for yourself. Don’t listen to what others say, and just go and watch it. Like I said before, just try and forget everything you have ever known about Max Payne.
P.S. Don’t miss the credits, there is a very “interesting” scene attatched.

Well, it makes me feel better that there is more than just a shitty side to this movie. I think I will take the time to go watch it in the near future, after I watch Saw V that is. Hopefully I will get to watch it tomorrow night. But I guess I could wait til Thursday if I have to. I am just not looking forward to sitting through High School Musical 3. Moviebuff really wants to see it badly.

Bear, ouch, man I feel for ya,,,
This is an awesome Max Payne non-biased review.
I might actually see this now. I’ve never played the game. Sure its a Death Wish style story, but yeah to think that the hot chick from “That’s 70’s Show” steals the film,,, hmmm I love it.
^
Maybe I’ll sneek into this after “W” tomarrow ???

I would say it is worth watching, but like I said there is no reason to hate it just because of the title.

Yeah, I am gonna watch it. I didn’t really get into the game that much. I played it at a friends house a couple of times but that was it. So, I really didn’t have anything to go by but what other people said. And I usually don’t listen to them anyway but I just felt that with an overwhelming number of bad reviews that I probably wouldn’t enjoy myself because I would be thinking that it sucks before I have even seen it. Once I get something like that in my head it is hard to get out :)

So, I watched it last night and it was ok. The big-ass gun was pretty cool. And Mila Kunis did an excellent job. As for everyone else, I think the acting was a little lacking. Overall it was good action though. :)

Lacking? Perhaps Amaury Nolasco (Sucre from prison break) sucked, but other than that I thought it went pretty well.

Truthfully if one person sucks, it really brings everybody else down too. In my opinion Donal Logue wasn’t all that great either. I guess it may be because I have really never liked him. I’m not sure.

Anyone here seen the Online Exclusive scifi wire talks to cast and director of “Max Payne?” Before it broke, funny that, I got a chance to watch it, and it’s a pretty good explanation of why and where the movie goes where it does. I never played the game, but Ive read several reviews including Stan’s. Sent SciFi a note about the link, check it in a few days. Based on that interview and Stans’ review I’ll mark this one for second tier theater viewing.

It’s currently broke. It points to the wrong file. If you like, I’ll monitor and let you know when they fix it. Probably be issued a new link.

Maybe it could be retitled to The Payne of Max, and drop the expectations the title brings with it. So Hollywood tweaks it up again. I’m am so shocked… zzzt. really. wow. (OK, the sarcasm is getting too thick for even me.)
Amaury Nolasco sucked? Damn.. he was one of the draws for me.
It did “look” interesting, that’s for sure.
