Peter Gabriel tells The Academy to “Shock the monkey,” and my Oscar predictions
"You gambled with your own life, and you face the night alone." - "Wallflower,Peter Gabriel"

"You gambled with your own life, and you face the night alone." - "Wallflower,Peter Gabriel"

I’m your Sledgehammer Peter Gabriel, shocked the Oscar monkey on Monday (5 days before the show) when the British ex-Genesis founder refused to perform his Wall•E, Oscar nominated song, “Down to Earth” as well as singing in another medley in the upcoming live event. Gabriel refused to perform after learning that his Best Song performance was cut to 65 seconds due to apparent rating pressure to change the pace of the show. (Lol) If the Academy suits had done their Gabriel homework, they would have found out that Peter Gabriel is the “Mickey Rourke” of Rock. His record label (Geffen) once insisted that he give his albums titles, Gabriel’s response was the album named “So.”

When it comes to The Oscars, the bottom line is ratings! Besides pissing off Gabriel, I can’t believe the huge ratings opportunity they have missed out on by not nominating The Dark Knight, for Best Picture. One of the colossal huge ratings blunders of all Oscar time. (IMO), If The Dark Knight was nominated for Best Picture the online community would have viral marketed the Oscar buzz into the highest ratings of all time, yet the Academy failed to see this opportunity. The advertising loss alone has got to be over 40 million+. O-well the prompters telling me to wrap it up (for ratings sake), ya know how it goes. Here’s my Oscar predictions,

I actually agree with your picks and your opinion on the TDK snub, i really think Nolan should have been at the very least niminated for Best Director, but I am also biased, since he is one of my favorite directors.
    Oh Well.

I am willing to bet that Millions will tune in just to see Heath win in his category and then tune out right after.

Slumdog is worthy, I had no desire to watch it and then when I did I was surprised.

Yeah Metallicat your exactly right. I’m betting even with the Ledger factor, this will still be a low rated Oscars…

I’m not the only one that’s criticising the Academy for snubbing TDK as Best Picture, there’s a few others as well in the trades that are basically saying the Oscars needs to learn when to pander and when not too…

By not giving TDK the nom, they lost millions in viewers and ratings.

    The (Out of touch) Academy.

    Good post, 790. :-D

I’ll be watching to see how Hugh Jackman does hosting this thing. (be he does better than the last two hosts!) And for Watchmen TV spots heheh.

Thanks KEL, keep in mind I despise Wall•E as much as the next guy, but let’s face it, its gonna win. The Oscar’s are on ABC that =’s Disney…

I’ll be surprised if “Kung Fu Panda” wins.
