The Fallen
As most of you know by now, there were pictures of what appeared to be The Fallen toy from the upcoming Transformers sequel. Those pics were cool and all, but they really left me wanting more. Well today, we got a little clearer look at what may end up being The Fallen, as well as our first real look at Devastator! These pics are way too cool to miss, I highly recommend you click on the picture to view it in big beautiful high quality! I wrote a decent sized post about my thoughts on Michael Bay, Transformers 2 and The Fallen the other day, which you can view here, so I don’t have much to add for this post. So to make it worthy of your time, what follows will be a cool little bit of information about Devastator, straight from the wikki entry on the character. Below are the pics, which you can click on to see them in their full glory. Enjoy!
Devastator is the combined form of the six Constructicons. The team’s combined form of Devastator is brutality in its purest form—his sole purpose is to destroy anything and everything that gets in his way. It is ironic that the suitably intelligent Constructicons should sacrifice their thinking ability in their combined form, but simple-mindedness is a common limitation of the assorted other first-generation combining Transformers, because Devastator’s thoughts and actions are limited to what his six components can agree upon at any given time. Consequently, Devastator seems like a being of instinct, lashing out at everything around him before contemplating the consequences, but he is also slow and lumbering and very easy to trip up.
Devastator in Marvel Comics!
The origins of the Constructions in Marvel Comics’ Transformers series was not nearly so complicated. Seeking to bolster the size of his forces on Earth in 1985, Decepticon Commander Shockwave arranged for the construction of six new Decepticon bodies, which were then infused with life by the power of the Creation Matrix, tapped from the head of the imprisoned Optimus Prime. Thus, the Constructicons were born, and were immediately put to work building a massive radio transmission dish that Soundwave used to beam a message to Cybertron. When the Autobots attempted to interfere, the Constructicons revealed their hidden power and merged into Devastator to fight them off, allowing the message to successfully go through.
The Autobots, intrigued by Devastator’s unique combining power, attempting to replicate it with the construction of Omega Supreme, but as Omega was composed of only three (non-sentient) components, unlike the six Constructicons that made up Devastator, the Autobots conducted a raid on the Decepticon base, luring out Devastator so that they could gather data on him. This allowed them to accomplish the construction of the new combiner team, the Aerialbots, capable of forming Superion, whom Devastator battled during the Transformers’ adventure alongside G.I. Joe.
A story published in issue 264 of the U.K.’s Transformers comic is often cited as an attempt to explain both releases, but since the “new” Constructicons wouldn’t be released for another two years, the only toy the story could actually be based upon would be the Action Master version of Devastator. In the story, it was revealed that that the Constructicons had lost the ability to combine and were attempting to rebuild Devastator as a singular, separate entity. The Autobots Ironhide and Bumblebee arrived on the island to investigate, and Ironhide was able to bypass the security grid and plant explosives to destroy the site, and Devastator with it.

I am somewhat excited for this one, but i have to be honest, Fallen, though he may look cool and menacing, it looks like a hybrid between The “Matrix” Sentinals and an Alien from “Aliens”.
Devistator looks cool as well

These are pretty cool looking. The funny thing is, it wasn’t until I read your other post that “The Fallen” was an actual character. I watched the cartoon growing up, but that’s all I know about the Transformers really. That and they got to swear in the original theatrical release.
Again, I’m looking forward to “big robots-smash” but I just feel that Bay’s team may have “over-designed” the robots. It’s just hard to make out what they are. There are so many pieces that I couldn’t even make out where some of their heads where. Yes, they look really f’n cool, but I would just like to be able to tell what I’m looking at.
I guess for once, I’m wanting something “dumb-down” a little bit. Oh and for PRIME’S sake, just pull back from the action a little, Mike!

I’ll agree with your assessment of their looks Metallicat. But I kind of think it looks cool.
JD – I’ve said before that I am a comic geek, so I knew that The Fallen was an actual transformer, but I knew little else. I’ve enjoyed all forms of transformers except for the comics. I’ve read a couple, mostly the G.I. Joe tie ins, but that’s about it.
You are spot on about it being hard to see what is going on with the transformers. That was my biggest gripe about the first one. Other than that I thought it was great. I always appreciated that the cartoon was easy to understand. But really, if you think about it, if they dumbed down the look to be more in line with the cartoon, it would look corny and fake. So I think we’d kinda lose either way. Personally I’d rather see a couple of slo-mo shots mixed in from time to time in the heat of battle, so at least we’d get to see what’s going on for a little while. Or at least, change the head/shoulders area only. Give each one some sort of distinguishing spot or style in that area so that when the crazy action is going on, we could see the spot and know what’s going on a little better than we would’ve otherwise. But I’m really worried that it wouldn’t look better if they changed it too much.

Lame,,, I have a feeling Bays going to overcompensate with robot battles in this sequel.
All will be ok, when Sector 7 arrives like in a bad Godzilla film, (yeah there are a few),,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Baaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy !!!!!!!!
(Yelled in the same vein as Kahn!!)
^
If it wasn’t for parking structures Bay would drive a Monster Truck to work, yep I’m talking micro penis syndrome folks, you can see it in his movies…
I hate this guy!

From all the interviews I’ve seen with Bay since they started working on this, he is definitely amping up the battles, and he has also claimed that this one will be (and I quote) “darker, with better character development.”
I don’t know if I buy it, but I’m going to see it because I love the thought of giant robots smacking the shit out of each other!

“Darker, With More charactor Development” Darker, yes. Butt more charactor devlopment? In a Bay film?? Thats a bit of an Oxymoron.

If Bay had not been chosen to direct the first Transformers, Who would have been your first choice as director?
I for one would not have minded seeing Spielberg direct it rather than produce it and hide behind Dreamworks. But I think Gore Verbinski or David Goyer would have done a better job, because though they do great action films (POTC and Blade Trinity, respectivly) they typically won;t sacrafice charactor devlopment and plot for more explsions, which as much as i enjoyed the firstone, I would have liked ot have seen more devlopment on story and character (particulairly for the Transformers).

I don’t think Spielberg would have come anywhere near this. And I wouldn’t want to see Goyer do it either.
I wouldn’t have a problem with Verbinski, but how about John McTiernan? I’d like to see what he could do with it.

John McTieran would actaully work really well, didn’t think if him.
Why not Goyer?

Hey, ’salright, bro. Good to talk to someone who actually has a “life” outside their computer that sometimes interferes with their net surfing time. (no offense to any other posters) We have a lot in common, my friend, lol!

It’s my job to be here all the time, to respond to the good people who take time from their busy schedules to comment on our site.
Nights and weekends, however, you’ll notice I am visibly absent from the goings-on here. That time belongs to my “life” My wife and two kids. Some people just don’t have to work too hard at their jobs, and they look for things to do. I encourage anyone board at their job to come over here from time to time! Great way to kill time!

I am one of those who kills time at work. and you will notice I am around more nights and weekends as this is when I have free time, unless of course I am pulled away by family or my job which is happening a lot these days.
