Did Kunis just land her “breakout” role?

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunisli

Mila Kunis.  You may remember her from her role in “That 70’s Show” as Jackie.  She also had rather prominent roles in two films from the past year.  She played the fun loving hotel employee  Rachael Jansen in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”  and she had a very forgettable role in the disappointing “Max Payne,”  as Mona Sax.  Some of you may even recognize her voice from her work on “Family Guy” as Meg Griffin.  To date, she hasn’t really had a breakout role.  She has found herself a nice little niche as the adorable love interest in the world of comedy, but nothing that may launch her into the realm of serious actresses.  But she may have just landed that role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kunis has just signed on to co-star with Denzel Washington in the post-apocalyptic thriller “The book of Eli.”  Kunis will play Solara, a character whom was hired to betray Washington’s character during his quest to find a book that could save humanity.  Her character eventually joins Washington’s character on his quest to save the world.  This sure does sound like a run of the mill sci-fi thriller, but Denzel Washington’s involvement certainly gives this project instant credibility.  And starring opposite Denzel would be a big break for Mila Kunis.  This could be the role that really launches her career beyond the comedy world and into serious dramatic acting.  This could be huge.  And really, any excuse to see Kunis on screen is a good enough excuse for me!

  1. Yeah she’s very cute, but she’s also very young looking and short…
I hope this helps her out but I see her as more of a TV talent ,,,

  2. I think if she can’t convince audiences with this movie, she should be banished to the t.v world forever. No real reason why she shouldn’t gain some extra noteriety for this except for a bad performance. But I’ll give her this chance.

  3. Any gal that can suffer through over a hundred episodes as trodden upon Meg Griffin deserves a shot. But just one, we wouldn’t want anyone thinking Hollywood was easy…

  4. I personally think that Max Payne was her breakout role. No, it wasnt a leading role, but it really showed me that she has what it takes to star in something more than a comedy. I never would have thought that she could have pulled off an action part, but by-God she did. I look forward to seeing her in a more diverse pick of films.

  5. Good point Old Man!

Stan, I think if Max Payne had been more successful, or more critically acclaimed, it couldve been a real break out role for her. She did show me that she can pull off the action, I have faith in that. But this movie could be big, and if it is, then she in turn will also be big. I’m a big fan, she’s funny and cute. I’d really like to see her make it big in Hollywood.

  6. That is a smoking hot picture,,,

  7. Wow, she is hot…

Um, oh, her acting? I don’t know and I don’t care, she’s hot… Me likey. More movies with her please, lol. Everyone loves Angelina Jolie. You guys can have her, I’ll take Kunis. I’ve always liked the petite ones.

Oh, but seriously, how was she in Max Payne? Didn’t watch that movie, not sure if I will. I mainly remember her from That 70’s Show. I knew she was in Family Guy, but never really liked that show. The humor was just slap stick humor, and any attempt at real-life satire was merely left-wing propaganda. So no thanks, but I’m curious if she does have any acting chops or not. Can’t really tell from That 70’s Show, because if that’s the only thing I have to make a decision from, then the answer is not really, but it’s hard to make that call from a tv show that didn’t even take itself seriously…

  8. Hahahaha! I think we all agree Ken J! I’d go with her over Jolie too! (just don’t tell my wife! ;) )

She was okay in Max Payne. Probably one of the few bright spots of that movie in my opinion. Stan-Lee reviewed the movie for us, I’d recommend checking out the review before renting or buying Max Payne, its real short, so it won’t take much of your time! But anyway, I think she showed that she is capable of playing an action role. But I thought that all of the characters were rather dull, so she probably shouldn’t be judged too poorly for a spot in a poor movie. She was in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and she was really good in that. She just has this thing about her, a glow, she is very likeable. I’m going to give her a chance as a legitimate actress. If she does poorly in this movie next to a great actor like Denzel, she’ll be done and need to go back to romantic comedies and cartoons.

  9. Definitely check out the review before watching the film. I could see how Max Payne would easily disappoint someone if you didn’t have the right mind set.

If you do watch it be sure to watch the bit after the credits.

  10. Alright Stan the man, I’ll take a look at the review, might rent it if I’m interested. Probably just to see Ms. Kunis there…

Dang, did I say how hot she is in that photo??

If I’m not mistaken, in that Book of Eli movie you’re talking about with Washington, Ray Stevenson will be in it as well right? I really like him, Rome was a 10 out of 10 tv series for me mainly because he was in it. Without him, it would have been a 8 out of 10. Still good, but not as bad ass. Too bad Punisher Warzone was so poorly made. He was great in it, everyone else was horrible. Kind of hard for one person to carry an entire movie. I still enjoyed it simply to see Ray Stevenson rack up a kill count worthy of an 80’s Arnold film.

  11. Yes, Stevenson will be in the movie as well. I think he is great, and eventually I will watch Punisher: War Zone because of him. I keep hearing that it is really poor. My favorite line in a review of P:WZ was that it was basically an R rated Batman: Forever because of the lighting being all sorts of odd colors. I’ll still see it though. I’m a sucker when it comes to movies.

  12. Yah, it was pretty poorly made. But Stevenson was excellent as The Punisher, no doubt about that. He looked the part and played the part well. Everyone else was pretty bad, especially the villains, they were horrible. But if you can fast forward all of the useless talking parts and go straight to the action scenes with Stevenson mowing down bad guys left and right, those parts were lots of fun.

But it’s too bad, I would like to see a good Punisher film. Ilike the premise of the character. A real life mortal human that takes on the corrupt and the guilty with massive fire power and superior training. And I doubt anyone can find anybody who looks better for the role than Ray Stevenson.

Oh, and did I mention that Mila Kunis is hot??

  13. Ok. I won’t go in to P:WZ with high expectations, so I shouldnt be too upset about it. I love the Punisher, it could make for a great movie. But I don’t think we will ever see a fair Punisher movie. It has to be gritty and dark in a realistic world (like the Dark Knight) plus ultra violent and bloody (like you say this one was) From what I can gather, this movie got the character right, but the story wasn’t worthy of a movie and it seemed sort of campy. Its as if too balance all the blood and gore, they made the world it was based in unreal (maybe to make people feel like all this violence was okay because it wasn’t real world violence?) A Punisher movie should be ultra violent and they shouldnt apologize for it!

  14. Yah, pretty much Jon, but the sad part is that it seems it as Lexi Alexander who seemed to not understand what needed to be done. It was like she was too concerned about having fun while making the film to be concerned about making a good film. Because despite how corny the lines were in the movie, Ray Stevenson looked like he was part of a serious movie and acted like it, yet everyone around him acted like they were in a comedy/action. It was pretty weird, it was like Stevenson was playing in a different movie than everyone else. So the only thing I could gather from that is that the director was trying to get everyone to play a campy goofy movie, but Stevenson was trying to take it seriously. So I kind of feel sorry for him. I think he really wanted this to be a good film, and so did I.

But luckily it doesn’t appear that this film has ruined his career or anything, he is slated to appear in that other movie with some well-known big names, so as long as that film is written well and directed well, it could become his breakout role like it will be for Kunis. Which is smoking hot by the way, not sure if I ever mentioned that yet… :-P
