Bazooka Joe
Just got word today that in the future you may be seeing Bazooka Joe in a theater near you. No, I don’t mean at the concession stand, I mean on the big screen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter Michael Eisner has acquired Mark Hammer to write a feature length film featuring Bazooka Joe. You know, that entertaining little comic strip that comes with ever package of Bazooka Joe bubble gum.
The comic strip has been around since the 1950’s, but I can’t immagine that this will be an easy adaptation. Sure, I like Bazooka Joe, he is quite possibly one of my favorite comics, but I am having a bit of trouble imagining a feature length film. Perhaps they will explain the origins of his eye patch, or maybe they will just paste together 60 years worth of comics, I really don’t know.
The bigger question for me is will this be live action, or will this be a cartoon?

Really shows the lack of creativity in Hollywood these days. They are making movies out of board games and bubble gum comic characters. I like an occasional Bazooka Joe comic as much as the next guy, but there is no damn reason to make this a movie and I can’t imagine it being any good at all. Seriously weak stuff.

Yeah…I would rather see them produce the elusive Sgt. Rock film that Bruce Willis was supposed to be in about 1 years ago. How does Bazooka Joe get Green-lit and Sgt Rock get’s shelved?
If they are doing this, I could only see it as a animated film. It would almost make sense to just do a TV series instead of a film. What ever happened to our Saturday Morning line ups? That was something that I looked forward too as a kid…even back in the day, I used to get excited about what “new shows” were going to hit Saturday mornings. Now all we have is a bunch of either shipped in Japanimation crap or gross out cartoons..well that is how it seems anyway.
Sure, looking back there was a lot of crap cartoons on Saturdays (Q-bert, Pac-Land anyone?) but you always had a couple good ones you looked forward to…at least I did. Ah, those were the days…
Sorry, got side-tracked!

What’s that? Could that possibly be another failed attempt at not writing original material based off of comics, toys, and movie classics? I think soooooooooo. Hell look at this Land of the Lost cockbuster where is Will and Holly? Heelllooo! Oh how I wish the masses would revolt on Hollywood and say “STOP you don’t know what your fucking doing anymore.” What’s an idea anymore? Oh it’s games, toys, comics, pop culture, and anything Hollywood really doesn’t have to apparently think about anymore.
This “Bazooka Joe” has FAIL chewed all over it!

I also agree with JD that it would be much better suited as a TV series. I’m getting tired of unoriginal movies that are based on older concepts. Hollywood is getting redundant.
