Babylon 5 coming back as a major motion picture?

Babylon 5

Babylon 5

Our friends over at <Skewed&Reviewed>  just got an exclusive scoop on the latest with the incredibly popular science fiction tv series, “Babylon 5.”  Word is that the series will finally have its exclusive turn as a major motion picture !!!

J. Michael Straczynski, the writer and producer of the series (for those of you who don’t know), has reportedly said that he will no longer produce “Babylon 5″ for the small screen. Quote:

“There is no more Babylon 5, unless its a full picture, and is ready to leave the series, rather than compromise it with cheap sequels.”

I for one welcome this news with open arms as I’ve personally met cast members, and reassured them that there will be a B5 movie.  I never had any doubts!!!

Straczynski credits his work on Changeling and Forbidden Planet in helping him gain more respect as a movie producer. This is great news!  Anyone out there fans of Babylon 5?

(Just to clarify), I have met a lot of the cast from B5, and I remember a lot of them saying how there wouldn’t be a film version of B5.
I told them, that as long as Science Fiction is popular that there WOULD BE a B5 film.
    That’s all I meant by that statement…

Of course there’s nothing concrete reguarding a B5 film at this time, however I found the comments by JMS extremley incouraging and wanted to share this info…

I think it’s a good sign that JMS seems open to the idea. It would’ve been very disappointing if he had come out and said he didn’t want to ever return to B5.

That news is probably enough to get the internet B5 fanboys stirred up, and maybe enough buzz could get things moving in a positive direction.

Yeah KEL, prob won’t happen for a year or so, but Straczynski is a workaholic he’ll have (if not already) a script written in a few months,,,,, I’m hoping. :)

I can not wait to see this film. The first season of the series was weak but the show got better and better like The 4400. The war with the Shadows was badass. Great writing. I still have to watch the last season of Babylon 5 and the last season of Farscape.

You havnt seen the last season of Farscape or B5 how is that possible?

Season 5 of B5, closes up series rather well, however it does cover a large timeline. Then of course there’s the spinoff show “Crusade” that was cancelled after only 10 episodes. They could uses characters from both shows and really wrap up the conflict that Crusade was involved with.

Hey Film-Book, you know that they did a miniseries after season 4 of Farscape. “The Peacekeeper Wars”. Really good stuff…

    Its true.

I saw some of the Crusader episodes. Very cool. Good drama and funny too. That alien porn episode…

I’ve got to get a bigger hard drive.

The 4400, that was a great concept. But I have to disagree, I actually thought the show got worse as it went along. I stoped caring as much about it, even though I continued watching.

    Hey my good friends…

Sorry I’ve been away for a while, had a lot of promotions, some film festivals to attend to and I’ve just finished my two scripts and a 10min short. So… I’ve been a bit busy and this month I’m also co-producing another film festival.

Anyway, thank you for this 790, you know I’m a major fan of Joe Michael Straczynski. JMS is such an incredible person, he’s so kind and understanding. Last time I met him we had a talk about Andreas (G’Kar), also about Richard and how it all made a major impact on the B5 universe. I’ve always wanted to meet Andreas and talk with him, more than just “hello I’m a fan”, but sadly he never made it and he died of cancer. He was Greek and he did love them smokes. :(

I do tend to mail JMS from time to time, just to get the facts. Since Changeling he’s been very busy promoting his work and gaining a foot into the big boys office, so when I heard he was doing the Forbidden Planet Trilogy with James Cameron I was extremely happy for him. He truly deserve it all. He’s worked so hard to keep one of my all time favorite TV shows alive for as long as he did, Babylon 5 is a gem and will always be for me.

However the latest I’ve gotten which was about a week before Christmas, was from one of his assistants. Babylon 5 has now officially been sent to “hyperspace”, till it’s asked back by the right people. JMS said he’s tired of low budget deals on Babylon 5 and if it’s ever going to come back on the screen it’s going to be the silver screen. IF it’s coming back it’s going to be as a major motion picture and yes.. it’s going to have a lot to do with the Psi Corp. ;)

Thanks for writing this news 790!

    :)

    Oh and another thing…

At the time of Richard Biggs’ death, J. Michael Straczynski was in the early stages of pre-production on a Babylon 5 theatrical film, titled The Memory of Shadows. Straczynski later announced that Biggs’ character, Dr. Stephen Franklin, would not be recast when the film goes into production. The project has since been shelved. There’s also been talks about a Garibaldi story, which would have happened if not for the lame budget and somewhat unfortunate theme in the last B5 TV movie.

IF only Joe can score an Oscar or a BAFTA, it would mean so much to him and those who know what he’s been through.

Funny you should say that… Actually Walter and Joe are good friends… during the DS9 incident back before it was DS9 and before B5 was sold to Warner, what happened because of that incident made them hang out and then he made the character for Walter. Actually Alfred Bester is based on a famous Sci Fi writer. So… it’s all an inside thing… but it’s a good story… actually wasn’t that the story I was supposed to tell you? What really happened between Joe and Paramount? Why DS9 is DS9 and B5 is what it is today?

Hmmm, I think I forgot. Sorry..

jms was very good with b5 by not doing anymore of those low budget flicks it has told me and my friends he no longer cares obut b5 and its fans. Thats why fans are turning away from him. So call him up and tell him to man up and dont let his fans down.

I hope B5 makes it to the big screen it would be fantastic even if rebooted like Star Trek 11 was. J.J behind Babylon 5 would be good. Maybe let someone else direct the B5 franchise. Being a sci fi author myself I would love to see someone else take a shot at it!!
