5 Movies That Deserve a Sequel

Originally I started making this list thinking of a few movies that I thought it would be cool to see a sequel of. But after I thought about it for a while, I think that the following films would be cool to have a sequel, but probably shouldn’t. Why do i say that you may ask? Simple! Hollywood has a bad track record for destroying films that are sequels. To be honest, none of the following films should have a sequel, but it is fun to think what it could be.

1. Escape From New York:

Yeah, I know we had Escape From L.A. but that just wasn’t enough for me. Could you imagine Snake Plisken with today’s technology, and gadgets? I know there were some talks a few years ago about a remake, but without Kurt Russell on board it would be a pointless attempt.

2. Christine

Christine is one film that truly deserved a sequel, however we all know that a sequel would be horrible. The film was set up perfect for a sequel, remember the ending? I could see a sequel being something like Trucks, where a whole herd of ware-cars go on a killing rampage. I know, probably would wind up being totally lame, but worth the thought anyways.

3. The Big Lebowski

This is one film that I was actually afraid to post. Why? Because I don’t want to be responsible for putting the idea into anyone’s head to make a sequel. An attempt to make a sequel to The Big Lebowski would be suicide. There were some talks of a Big Lebowski 2 a few years back, but let’s hope it stays that way. If the film were to be made it would have to be a prequel, seeing as how I dont think a sequel would be possible. Wouldn’t it be fun to follow the “Little” Lebowski?

4.Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I don’t know of any possible way to make a sequel to Fear and Loathing without it being exactly the same. Perhaps if there was more drinking and more drugs it would be possible, but I just don’t see it happening. Oh wait, it is happening. There is a film being produced called Rum Diary. Rum Diary is based off of the first book written by Hunter S. Thompson. According to IMDB the film will be released sometime in 2009, but I for one woldn’t bet on it.

5. Office Space

I know they tried to claim Idocracy as a sequel, but Idiocracy had nothing to do with Office Space, not even close. I would love nothing more than to see Milton come back and destroy another company, or to see another fax machine beat down!

You know, looking back on my list I am thinking that maybe I should have made a list of movies that shouldn’t have a sequel. Maybe I will make that list next week.

But in the meantime, what films do you guys think need a sequel? And please, don’t say 300.

  1. All those films are cult classics,,,
I could maybe go for a sequel to “Office Space”,,, but the others shouldn’t ever be remade… Or at least in my lifetime. :-)

  2. I think that Christine could have a good sequel.

An office space sequel could really go either way though…

  3. They would have to update the story,,, maybe have some of the parts show up in a Race Car,,,something different then the original story.

  4. Ah, i see what you are saying,. Have Milton show up as a pro race car driver. It practically writes itself now.

  5. Ahh haaahaaa,,
I don’t even remember the characters names it been soo long since I’ve seen Christine. I do remember the ending when the radio came on in the scrap. (Total Stephen King!)

I’ve allways said screw the remakes give us something new.
There’s so many great scripts out there…Even if its a sequel or prequel, those are usually better than a full blown remake.

Here’s some films that I would would green-light,,,

    1- Opus of Riddick
    - Buck Rodgers in the 28th Century.
    3- Farscape the Movie.
    4- Doctor Who the Movie
5- The Philadelphia Experiment (ok you could remake this one)

  6. Man, it sure is nice to just let the imagination run wild about pissed off office workers and a little duderino!

Seriously though I agree that sequels to these movies probably shouldnt get made, but with the way Hollywood is churning out script after script based on a classic property, it’s only a matter of time. That rumored Escape from NY sequel/remake/reboot might have had a chance with Gerard Butler as Snake. I might be a glutton for punishment, but I would go see it for sure.

Okay, movies that should be made ASAP:
Buck Rodgers (sorry 790, but thats a great idea)
Voltron (do it right people, and it’ll be better than transformers)
Deadpool (ok, maybe I’m a little biased, but the character’s history certainly warrants a film. Its dark, romantic, hardcore and hilarious!)

Let me think some more, and I could get a whole lot more.
I just wish that there was a little more emphasis put on producing quality script ideas for classic properties. Im so tired of Hollywood ruining my favorite movies and tv shows from back in the day.

  7. lets just hope hollywood doesn’t kill the a-team.

  8. Definitely psyched about the a-team. I just hope they find a way to work Mr T into the film at some point. Even just a brief cameo like Stan Lee does in all the marvel movies, or Lou Ferrigno got in The Incredible Hulk

  9. Is that a yeah or neah on the Buck Rodgers, Deadpool (lol) ? ;-)

To me, (Escape From New York), has always been about the look, and the vibe of the film…
Landing on the Twin Towers, running from the Crazies,
    Saving the President,,,
You could remake it but it wouldn’t be worthy (IMO), and. Its wasting an original movie idea…
    ^
(The A-Team), is the same thing. If I had my way , they would use the entire living original cast to start off the film…
It could show us now what they’re doing. Some of the Mr T, stuff could be hilarious…
They could respect the fact that Hannabel was dead and even show a memeorial,,,
Murdock could be a flight instructor somewhere, Face man could be producing “real movies” for a change, and Mr T, could be working as a bodyguard or even protecting a famous celeb like David Hasselhoff,,, (comedy insues)
Mr T, could have a son in Army “special forces” that we learn about halfway through the film, “T,Jr” could also be involved in some problems in Iraq that gets his Spl-frcs. Team in trouble…
“The old A -Team” have to go on what maybe there final mission to save T,Jr and free his team…(Insert tragic death of one of the old team here),,,
At the end of the film the new A-Team takes over and we have a franchise!!!
Anything like that I’m down for !!!

Anything else is gonna be another bad Ice Cube film, Sucka!!!

  10. I agree whole heartedly. if they are going to make a sequel they need to somehow include the original cast. the last thing we need is another dukes of hazzard, or starsky and hutch.

  11. Starsky and Hutch was so disappointing. Sure they had a cool little cameo in the end, it was funny but ultimately sad. I sure hope the A-Team does NOT do that. Give the original cast at least half the movie. I like the idea they tossed around for the proposed Ghostbusters sequel. Have the original team together, and bring on the new cast as trainee’s. Set them up to have their own franchise, if it does well, but still give the original characters the send off they deserve!

  12. As a movie I personally liked starsky and hutch. However it didn’t deserve the title Starsky and Hutch. My feeling towards that film were much like Max Payne. It was a good movie, but you cant compare it to anything else. It really deserved a different brand.
