M Night’s New Project Announces a Title
M Night Shyamalan - Devil

M Night Shyamalan - Devil

M Night Shyamalan Teams Up with Quarantine’s John & Drew Dowdle (BRIEF UPDATE)

The upcoming M Night Shyamalan film collaboration with the Dowdle brothers will be called, Devil. The script will be written by Brian Nelson (30 Days of Night).

This will also be the first project M Night has written, yet not directed.

Sounds good, this has got to be better than The Happening, what do you think?

Everyone deserves a comment, so I will put aside my distain for M. Night for a moment.

Devil cannot possibly be any worse than the last couple of films that had Shyamalan’s name attached to them. The Happening, The Lady in the Water, The Village. Hard to believe that a mere 3 movies could totally destroy all the good will I had towards the man. Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are two of my favorite films of all time. Yes, all time. But those were not enough for me to just overlook the steaming pile of cinema M. Night has been responsible for lately.

Maybe if he comes through with a good sequel to Unbreakable (I believe he did originally intend it as a trilogy) Only then will I forgive him for that garbage he has subjected me to. I want my money back, Mr M. Night Shyamalan!!!

    Hey good article 790!

    Thanks Deadpool,,,
Lol,,, yeah M Night has had some real stinkers lately.
He had, I believe it was something like 6 years invested in Sixth Sense,,, the others films that came out after “Unbreakable” all sucked because he didn’t invest the time it takes to really craft a great film.

It seems he’s learned after “the happening” and know he’s going to learn from these other directors,,, Ironic ///

You would think all these big shot Hollywood types, at all levels of the industry, would notice that taking the time to do it right produces a better movie. And better movies make more money. Why are studios constantly rushing movies into production when enough time hasn’t been focused on the script. If it’s not the script, its all the time constraints put on directors, or on the editing process. This doesn’t just apply to M. Night. It applies to everyone in Hollywood.

Slow down and concentrate on making each aspect of the film as good as you can possibly make it. The end product has a far better chance of being good and making money.

Well just cause I wrote this up doesn’t mean I’m a huge fan of his.
The last film I’ve seen of his was, “Unbreakable”. (I really liked it, I found it more disturbing then Sixth Sense),,,
But then I the read reviews of the other films, and they were all pretty negative. The film trailers all looked bad especally “The Happening”.
I don’t see how a talented guy like M Night, could fill a film with people killing themselves.
Myself that’s prob the last thing I’m going to pay to see. .. Gimme a break.

Anyway this new project is kinda like rehab for M Night. He needs to take a back seat for awhile…

    “Hello, I’m M Night, and I’m a bad Director” , welcome M Night… ;-)

    Deadpool said; “cinema M”

    I like that! :-)

Shyamalan is like any other director that had three successes in a row “The Sixth Sense,” “Stuart Little,” “Unbreakable.” It’s, Hollywood treatment #1-”what ever you want baby?” Having three or four lackluster or bad movies after that, kind of makes people wonder if this guy isn’t just played out, or the sheen is off the golden egg. At any rate, he was writing movies before directing them, “Stuart Little,” so it’s a get back to the roots move that may give him insight where he’s went wrong.

    @the Old Man
I absolutely agree with you. He should write a couple of really good scripts first. Maybe that will help him get his “mojo” back!

you guys are idiots. Signs, The Village, and Lady in the Water are all amazing movies they’re just different from what people expected after first seeing Sixth Sense. I agree that the Happening was kinda crappy though. The concept of the movie is brilliant and the music was really good but the dialogue was boring and parts of the movie were just plain silly. This new project sounds more like a horror (Shymalan has only written one real horror movie) so it may be more like the sixth sense and maybe it will appeal to fans of his first movies who were too simple minded to appreciate his later ones.

Thanks for stopping by Steve, but please refrain from the name calling in the future.

In my opinion Signs was awful. However, I really enjoyed The Village, I agree that it was different and I really liked that. But I am really on the fence about Lady in the Water. Overall I didnt enjoy the film, but at the same time I found it entertaining and enjoyable. But that is just my crazy opinion.

I thought signs was just okay, but the Village and Lady in the water were absolutely lame. It has nothing to do with the Sixth Sense. A bad movie is a bad movie. Where Sixth Sense comes into play is that people are disappointed when his recent movies are bad because we know what he has the potential to do after seeing Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.

I know M. Knight is a talented guy, but I think he’s taking on too much and got caught up in his own hype. He needs to just sit back and focus on writing, and hang around the set of an established director to see how they do things. The guy just needs a little push in the right direction

I thoought Signs was mediocre at best, but with some strong perfomances by The Kids and Phoenix.
I think the problem with Lady in the water was that it was misrepresented when it was advertised, had it been promoated as the film it was, i tmay have been better received.
Unbreakable, IMO, is by far Shaymalans best work followed by The Sixth Sense and The Village (another film that was misrepresnted, though not to the same extent)

Isn’t M. Night’s next film The Last Airbender? I’ve heard a lot of rumblings about this. I don’t know about the source material.

As far as his other films…I really enjoyed The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable (which I wish he could have produced the last two films to “complete” the story) and Signs. I know not many people liked it, but for me it was far better than The Village. Lady in the Water wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone built it up to be (once I finally watched it) and I’m not really sure what happened to The Happening? Wow…IMO, he really crashed and burned with that one.

This is a really old post JD. It’s from October 08. Yes, he is currently working on the last airbender, which actually isn’t that bad a show as far as kids cartoons go. I don’t mind watching this one with my son and I’ll midly be looking forward to the movie.

Signs was better than the village, I’ve noticed after these recent comments convinced me to go back and rewatch all of his films. Not great, but not horrible. The Village was bad, but I’ve seen worse.

I think the problem with Lady in the water is two-fold: It was marketed completely wrong and people went in expecting it to be thrilling, chilling and/or surprising like his other films. I’ve learned that you really can’t go in to any film with any sort of expectations. You’re likely to be disappointed.

That said, I still think Lady in the Water was the worst of his films. Just my opinion though.

I think that the problem with The Happening, was that it took itself way to seriously and the acting was terrible partnered with terrible dialogue, i actaully laughed more in this film then i think was intended. I thought the concept was pertty cool, but the execution was deplorable.
