Jason Statham as Chev Chelios

Jason Statham as Chev Chelios

It’s no secret that I am a huge Jason Statham fan.  So much so that I am willing to forgive him for Death Race.  So when I heard we are getting a sequel to Crank, a movie that ended in such a way as to make a sequel seemingly impossible.  But low and behold, the impossible is now possible, and we will soon have Crank 2:  High Voltage.  Here’s the skinny on the return of Chev Chelios.  Chelios faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.  Sounds cool.  Doesn’t explain how in the world he <spoiler!> survived that fall.  I’ve heard many internet rumors on this, as far as I know, nothing concrete is out there.  They are just teasing us!  Well, from what I can gather, the movie opens with the Chinese Mafia pulling up and scraping Chev’s body off the pavement, then taking him so they could retrieve his “indestructible” heart.  They replace it with a mechanical heart that requires frequent jolts to keep it working.  That would seem to make sense.

Well, I watched the awesome new, RED BAND trailer for the sequel and this seems to be the case.  Awesome!  More Crank for everyone!  I loved the first film, it was non stop fun.  Beginning to end, a great movie.  So now that they have come up with a good explanation as to why Chev lives, I am 100% behind this movie.  What do you think?  Anyone else excited about getting some more Crank?

    Forgive him for Deathrace? WTF!?!? I just finished watching it and loved it just as much on DVD as i did in theaters.

    I was soooooo excited to see this trailer. But for some reason i am feeling very let down right now.

    Personally I think the film deserves a prequel. No sequel.

    Woah, I enjoyed Death Race. But I make no secret about my feelings for reboots/remakes. Death Race was not as good as the original. It was enjoyable for what it was, but nothing special. So I forgive him for being part of another unnecessary remake.

    I was stoked the whole way through. I have to see this now, as if I didn’t before! It was cut perfectly, just right for this type of movie.

    I’m down for a prequel too. Give me all the Chev Chelios you can think of, I love these movies. And I get the ending of the first/beginning of the second. It makes enough sense for me to be able to enjoy the movie.

    The premise for him being alive in Crank 2 is a joke.and really is an insult to the first film.

    I will not pay any attention to this crap sequel.

    I am going to agree with 790 on this one. By making this sequel they are taking away from what was done in the first film, which was purely amazing. A prequel however, would have been great.

    @Jon, I gotcha. But you have to admit it was a pretty awesome reboot.

    Death Race was not as bad as most other reboots are. It was enjoyable, for what it was.

    I guess I’ll get to do the review on this one!

    I enjoyed Death Race, but CRANK was much better IMO.

    I too am a Huge Statham fan. Loved him back when I first saw Lock, Stock… Then I remember when I saw the first preview for The Transporter, I was like WTF? SWEET! Who knew?

    I haven’t seen Death Race yet, though I would have been happier if they wouldn’t have called it a “remake”. (Though that is a whole other rant)

    I’m down for some more Crank. I have some big reservation. And True, a Prequel would have been a better way to go, but the ridiculous action still makes this look to be a blast. Plus really, how much stock can we put into a movie were a guy has sex in the middle of Chinatown to keep his heart from exploding?

    @Trench
    Crank was one of the best movies Statham has ever made. It was exciting all the way through.

    @JD
    Yes, Statham is bad ass. Death Race was certainly worth a watch. And if you’ve never seen the original, you’ll want to see it.

    I think we are all in agreement here that a prequel is the route they should’ve gone. But we don’t have that, and I’m not going to let a little detail like that ruin my enjoyment of this film. It could be really good. And you are right JD, can’t take this movie too seriously!
