Finally a trailer for Sherlock Holmes!

Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock HolmesLater this year, famed ex-hubby of Madonna and superstar directorGuy Ritchie, will release his attempt to bring Sherlock Holmes back to the forefront of the ever-growing crime drama genre that dominates tv and always does well at the box office.  We haven’t got much from the film so far:  a couple of set photos and movie posters have come out, and various cast members have been interviewed about their role in the film, but up until this point no one has anything solid to base an opinion of the film on, except for those involved in the project.  Fans of Robert Downey Jr and the world’s greatest detective finally have a reason to rejoice.  Included in this post is the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes.  Go ahead and check it out now if you haven’t already done so.  I’ll be waiting for you after this brief, and boy do I mean brief, plot synopsis for the project courtesy of IMDB:

“Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.”

The folks at Warner Brothers are keeping the official log line on the film under wraps, and while I don’t understand why I’ll accept it without complaint, because what I saw in the trailer looked pretty sweet.  I was immensely skeptical about the project at first, mainly because Guy Ritchie was directing.  Not that he is a bad director, just that I wasn’t sure he was capable of pulling off an intelligent crime drama/mystery flick.  Turns out I was pretty close to being right, but the end result was not what I expected.  Ritchie cast, rather brilliantly if I do say so myself, Robert Downey Jr.  He just oozes charm and wit, and that little touch of humor he brings to every role is perfect for the character.  Now that I’ve seen some quality footage, I can honestly say that Ritchie surprised me, and I am absolutely loving what I’m seeing.  The trailer was everything I love in a trailer, and I am now just as excited about this as I am about seeing my beloved (although seemingly butchered) G.I. Joe:  Rise of Cobra.  I have a feeling that this film will be a sleeper success of this year, and will firmly establish itself as another big bucks franchise for RDJ.  I’m eager for another person’s thoughts on this trailer.  What do you think?  Will Sherlock Holmes be a hit, or a miss?

Sherlock Holmes will play in a theater near you on December 25th of this year.

Something I am looking forward to, for sure!! looks like Ritchie put kind of a James Bond spin on Holmes, and it looks like it will work very well.

Side note- Did anyone else notice Mark Strongs very close resemblance to Andy Garcia?

I am totally stoked for this film! If the Robert Downey Jr. wave is still in full effect then this may do very well. I want this to be a great film – for Guy Richie’s sake. I love his style and I think he is a good director, but his last couple of films flopped horribly and didn’t get very good reviews.

This wasn’t what I was expecting either, but I am pleasantly surprised by this trailer. I love the slight hint of the “buddy-cop” movie that’s going on here. I don’t know why that never crossed my mind? I didn’t think I would like Jude Law in this role, but the trailer does a great job with showing their relationship and I’m totally down. Looks to be a fun flick!

Total Hit. RDJ is Close to Automatic right now. More Action than I originally Expected, but not as Cheesy looking as the A fore mentioned G I Joe.

Good call Mathias! RDJ is pretty damn close to automatic. It’s good to see him back on top again.

Guy Ritchie is a great director, though I’ll agree that his last couple were flops. This looks like it’ll be another success for Ritchie

RDJ is on the top of his game right now. He’s like King Midas right now. Everything he touches turns to gold
