“Battlefield Earth” had a real cool scene at the end, when the human hero character transports that explosive material to the alien homeworld and blows up the entire planet.

That was prob the best part of the film. But yeah overall the film was like watching a retarded version on “Planet of the Apes”.

Jon, Travolta was the one that wanted to do the film. He always loved the story and fought to get BE produced.

Anyone notice that the human character looked like Tom Cruise.

Everyone in that film was a $cientologist.

I just can’t believe Travolta would be that commited to a film like that. Out of curiosity, did he try to defend it after it came out? Now that would be commitment!

Oh yeah well the original story of Battlefield Earth was written by the founder of $cientology. El Ron Hubbard.

Travolta might be a good actor buts he’s a whack job in real life. He’s a closet gay, that lives a double life. I’ve heard from more than one source that his son killed himself after a life of $cientology and drugs became too much for him.

Anyone else read the coroners report,,, that kid didn’t die from head trauma, there was no head trauma found by the coroner. Then Travolta flew in his own “$cientology” doctor in to cover everything up…

He’s trapped by the cult of $cientology and he lives a double life. Same with Tom Cruise. Cruise is also a closet gay, that was originally discovered dancing in a gay bar in NY…

hahaha… I love conspiracy theories and similar stories.

Tom Cruise is definitely crazy. I feel bad for Katie Holmes. Tom told her she couldn’t be in TDK. I refuse to believe otherwise!

Grease was a good movie, for what it was and what it stood for.

They are both clearly crazy, and Tom Cruises movies stink, but I like some of Travolta’s films. Get ready for this one: I enjoyed Broken Arrow! I’m just crazy like that. Christian Slater and John Travolta!

I wasn’t kidding around when I said I tend to have opinions that come from way out in left field. I’ve always been an oddball. See me for opinions on retarded movies, I actually like some of them!

Yeah I do enjoy Travolta, he’s always great when he plays a bad guy… I’m able to look past his $cientology lifestyle.
But, Cruise on the other hand sucks and I usually boycott all his films…

That’s cool if you like Dane Cook, I just find his comedy “to in my face”, and spontaneously 8th grade…

Yeah, I get that about Dane. He is pretty immature and very “loud” but that type of stuff typically makes me laugh.

I haven’t seen a good Tom Cruise film in years. I can’t even remember the last good Tom Cruise movie. 790, do you like any of Tom’s older films? Way back when he was at his peak? Top Gun?

I will review in succession Get Shorty and Be Cool for you. Just give me a couple of days!
I also have to work on Atomic Popcorn’s request for a review on The Neverending Story.

I remember watching “Risky Business” back in high school with the click I was running around with. I couldn’t figure out why everyone liked that film or Cruise. We were all smoking the same bad pot,,, it was a real wtf moment for me.

“Collateral” and “War of the Worlds” were tolerable. But I really don’t like the guy.
    ^
Did you Cook fans hear that his brother/accountant ripped him off for millions. Haha!!
    Suck on that Dane !!!!

Collateral was the last good Tom Cruise movie. I didn’t like War of the Worlds.

I said I think Dane Cook is funny. I don’t really care if he gets ripped off. Everyone in Hollywood is over paid anyway.

ok lets see if i can catch up a la Momo:
    1) Battlefield Earth: Looked dumb, so i never took the time to watch, i normally enjoy Sci-Fi
    2) John Travolta- The on ething I have noticed about Travolta is that, he is kind slipping back into the nothingness that was his career in the 80’s. He is talented, but he really should find some more challenging roles, and even though i did enjoy Wild Hogs, he should avoid any comedies at all costs, because that was what killed his career in the 80’s (look whos talking anyone??). BTW Jon, you were not the only one who enjoyed Broken Arrow, i did as well.
    3) Get Shorty is one of the best comedies i have ever watched, but not a lot of people i expose it to really get it and did not like it at all. One of my favorite Travolta flicks. The Sequel was just ok, if it was not for Vince Vaughn, The Rock and Cedric The Entertainer, it would have sucked monkey nuts. The best part was when Elliot (The Rock) is smacking his ass while trying on a cowboy get up.
    4) Tom Cruise- never quite right after he played the bad guy in Collateral, he kind of went off the deep end. I liked his Tropic Thnder Cameo, Mission IMpossible III and Colateral. But long gone are the days of Jerry McGuire, Days of Thunder and Minority Report. YOu guys remember those Drug commercials, where it has the chick with the frying the egg. I think the slogan should be changed to, “This is your Brain. (cracks open Egg over frying pan) This is your brain on scientology, any questions?” Scientology is worse than any known hardcore drug out there and costs just about the same.
5)Dane Cook- Never seen his stand up, i have actually tried to avoid him, he comes across as juvinile and crappy in oyour face humor. I will admit though when Kevin Costner smacked him with the shovel and killed him in Mr Brooks, that was awesome. (at least i think it was Dane Cook). Never saw the one with Jessica Alba, not a real fan of Alba, she may be pretty to look at, but thats about it. She is the female version of Keanu Reeves. Very one domensional in her acting.

The strange thin is that I actually liked many of Cruise’ movies. Sure he usually plays “TOM” (except for Tropic Thunder…pretty freakin funny IMO), but the guy is pretty good at “TOM-emotions”…that and running. He does a lot of running in his movies.

DOH! I hated him in War of the Worlds! WTF was it with that character? There really wasn’t even a true turning point for him other than to make him even more unlikable. (I guess it was when he “killed for his daughter” but that scene really failed IMO). I loved the first half of this movie but the last half sucked!

I do think that Scientology is destroying Hollywood…well, that and Liberalism, but that’s for another site…

Sorry Metallicat, but I thought Wild Hogs was terrible. But I am glad I’m not the only one who liked Broken Arrow. And that joke about Tom Cruise? Brilliant. “This is your brain on Scientology…” LMAO
Mr Brooks was awesome, yes that was Dane Cook, and I thought that was a good performance by Dane. To each his own I guess. I do think you are spot on about Alba though.

Get Shorty : 5 Stars Be Cool: 3 Stars

    @JD
Where have I heard that “he does a lot of running in his movies…” joke before? I’m thinking it was a sketch on SNL or something… Your analysis of War of the Worlds is spot on. The first half was pretty good, but the second half was so damn bad that it completely ruined all the good they had built up in the first half.

Mr brooks had its moments, but I really actaully did not enjoy it as much i wanted to. It was a bit of a let down for me, what Made Mr Brooks watchable was the fantastic acting that was in it, partculariily from Costner and Hurt.

As for Wild Hogs, I said I enjoyed it, i did not say it was a comedic masterpiece, what made the film enjoyable was William H Macy and John C. McGinley, that was about it. Enjoyable, and craptastic all in one.

John C. McGinley is very funny. I love his character on Scrubs. Hilarious.

There was a real lame ass comedy that came out a while ago with Jason Lee and Tom Green, I believe it was called Stealing Harvard. Well, the movie was lame, but McGinley was in it. He played a cop and his character was absolutely hilarious! Anyone remember that one?

I have heard of it, but I avoid Tom Green like the plague, if ever there was a Canadain that was an embarassment to the Great Nation Of Canada, it would be him. But youare right on McGinley is one funny guy, he is the main attraction to Scrubs, I love Dr Cox, he is the man.

    Yes he is.

I’ve always thought stupid humor is very funny. So in a way, I like Tom Green a little. Just a little. Some of his stuff is just so ridiculous that I can’t understand it, but some of it is a little funny. But it’s clear to me that Tom Green is desperate for attention and the love of the people. I remember watching an episode of family guy once that had this Tom Green joke in it, where Tom was dressed up in a chicken costume under a cow in the grocery store, sucking milk straight from the teat. He stared at the camera and said “Does anyone out there like me yet?”

I thought it was pretty funny.

i loved wild hogs! john c. mcginley was great in that movie because i was kinda expecting a character like dr cox so it totally threw me off when he got that cheesy smile on his face when they first met him. haha… classic. and jon, ive warmed up to dr. cox. i still think he should be nice to jd tho…

stealing harvard was ok… i think tom greens best thing was “the bum bum song” maybe it was just because i was in like junior highg and really immature when it came out but that song was hilarious. the video was pretty funny too.

for those who havent seen it and have an immature sense of humor like me:
